SE-R? Why?
SER's? Well, here are some reasons to buy one....

Bland styling
Catalysts in the exhaust manifold that get sucked into the motor
Same 6-speed thats in a tiberon, notchy as hell
Premature paint fade
Plastic shift knob
Chevy-style interior

Although Replica is correct in some aspect, real power gains are best gaines by forced induction, those on a limited budget can find a little bit of horsepower gaines with a header and exhaust. Intakes, SRI or CAI, really do not get you noticeable gains. When I put on the header, the power gains were noticeable.

And be sure to check out Street Unit for some group buy's coming up (see my sig) and let me know if I can help.

And for the love of god, do not go out and get a neon.

i got my p5 a little over a year ago and have made only slight changes to it...main reason being i'm a broke college student. i do a lot of driving, so first things i changed were audio related to keep me entertained during my long highway trips. you'd be amazed at what a HU change can do. i did put a k&n typhoon intake in last june, and have been happy with the result. not really a noticeable power gain, but the motor sounds dramatically better under load. I recently bought a set of bridgestone blizzaks for the the snow and have been extremely pleased. you know how raidermp5 noted how the stock dunflops suck in wet weather? well, they are downright unsafe in fresh snow. next on the list is the stuff i've wanted to get right off the bat. that would be some suspension work. the p5 looks so good dropped. and if i'm really lucky and find some money, a set of msp wheels wrapped in some good rubber.

i don't know if this really helps you all that much, but that's my story about how i've started.

thanks for the tips -- I'm totally with you, I graduated college in 03 and have had a full time job now for a couple of years and I feel safe enough moding my car finally, its been a long wait. I hated the stock dunlops, those are gone :-) they hydroplained a lot on the highway. I've been doing a lot of research on stereos again, and will likely do something there soon, I just have to be careful because I also want to race the car, so anything very heavy will have to be removable ;-)

Good list, I'd sub a kartboy shifter for the B&M, and add something like a magnaflow or greddy catback, and you're in business.

no sir. b and m is a great shifter, iv had mine for almost a year and no problems lovin it

Dont...EVER...RECOMMEND..a NEON...AGAIN!

My Bro is a former Dodge salesman and he says that, technically, it isn't a Neon, it's an SRT-4.

Hmmm, looks like a Neon to me.

That doesnt even begin to make sense. A few new body panels and a different driveline make it an entirely different car? Why is it listed in the Neon section of Dodges website?

Smack him for me.

he's just sad that I run stock for stock w/MSPs (in a straight line and not to far behind on the track) and **** almost all N/A 3rd gens :D all while being N/A myself

but yeah, this is what I was talking about with each car having drawbacks...

to get back to the point of the thread:
when I had my P5 I think my most satisfactory gains were from the intake, shifter mods and audio upgrades. I didn't get into the power mods before the car met its demise... Suspension mods are also helpful because even if you don't go F/I you can make it handle like a beast (alright)
