i JUST INSTALLED THE WIDEBAND AND IT DOESNT FLUCTUATE LIKE ITS SUPPOSED TO? iT STAYS AT 14.7, 14.8,14.9 bUT THAT IT. cAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT ON THIS ONE.
 
If its like my TechEgde WB you have to let it "warm up" before it starts to

read, sometimes it can take up to 15min for mine to start going in the cold

weather.
 
Funktown, the AEM will read up right away after its "111 222 333 444 555" etc startup sequence.

In the REALLY cold if its an old gauge, it will flicker and get stuck on startup until the gauge housing is warm. Then it finishes the startup and reads correctly.

ok it's funny you just said that. i am beginning to believe my cars aem is broken...

it does that sequence all the time. GRANTED- i haven't driven it really..just started it up, moved it. etc....is this 111 222 333 444 etc..a normal thing?
 
Here is the AEM startup procedure.

EACH TIME the unit gets 12 volts delivered to it, it does a startup sequence like so:

"111"
"222"
"333"
"444"
"555"
"666"
"777"
"888"
"999"
"000"
"AEM"
"W02"

"14.7"
UNIT STARTS READ ACTUAL RATES


When the UNIT HOUSING is EXTREMELY COLD (approx 15F and below), the unit will get STUCK in the startup sequence. This problem is only found in older gauges (2004-early 2005, ask AEM exactly, it is a known issue)
The unit, if EXTREMELY cold, will stop early in the sequence. The colder, the earlier it will get stuck. For some reason, if it makes it past "555" it has been my experience that it will finish the startup sequence.

"111" <-COULD STOP HERE AND FLICKER THESE NUMBERS
"222" <-COULD STOP HERE AND FLICKER THESE NUMBERS
"333" <-COULD STOP HERE AND FLICKER THESE NUMBERS
"444" <-COULD STOP HERE AND FLICKER THESE NUMBERS
"555" <-COULD STOP HERE AND FLICKER THESE NUMBERS

**ONCE the unit warms up to a "cold" temperature (about 40-60F), it will RESUME the sequence where it stopped and complete the starting sequence then read data. Sometimes it may take 3-5 minutes for the unit to do this.

***RESUME STARTUP

"666"
"777"
"888"
"999"
"000"
"AEM"
"W02"
Begin data stream/actual WB signal

by fluctuate, does he mean bounce around like the autometer light show? widebands don't cycle like the disco A/F ratio gauges. but we all know that.

so it doesn't read when you give it gas?

that does help a great deal. i'll check it out today. thank you.
i guess my car's been sitting for a WHILE in the cold..so that could be the case.

Well, it should flucuate, not like a regular a/f guage though swinging back and forth. If he's staying at 14.5-14.8 throughout the whole powerband without it getting richer, then somethings wrong with the wideband or he's just way lean and will blow the engine.
 
Thanks for the reply guys, im gonna try a better source for power and try different ground. Where does everyone who has this have theirs tapped into for power?? BTW, the gauge is used so maybe it can be defective who knows hopefully not!!!!
 
I have my wideband wired into an empty spot on my stock interior fuse panel. Mine just turns on, counts from 1-20, then displays the calibration setting (1.03 for me) and then instantly starts giving readings.. no matter what temp it is started up at.

Does the AEM wideband sensor not self heat or something?
 
Actually in the instructions for the AEM. It says that the sensor goes through a warm up period that can take as long as 30 seconds. During those 30 seconds the gauge reading can be very inacurate. You will still get a reading but it still has a period of warm up it needs for acurate readings.

what a b**** this thing is..i must have something tapped wrong for wiring..b/c when i turn my lights on the boost guage and volt meter stay on, but the wideband turns off.....
