I have beaten several Mini's at test drive days, and while i like the Cooper S, there is no way in hell i could justify the added cost to get one.
Not to mention, they aren't any faster, they don't handle any better, they just look cool and cost more than my MSP IMHO.
it does handle batter

I too originally wanted a Mini S. I test drove one and loved it. Thes salesman was really informative and nice. He said that they don't make commission off of them and actually told me not to buy it right away. He encouraged me to come back several times to test drive it in different conditions. Anyway, I already had a two door, and putting my son in the back seat sucked. The price of the Mini was probably the main reason. The loaded S model costs right at $25,000. I'm not a big fan of buying new, but the used Minis (even 2002) were going for just as much. Unfortunately, the only way to get an S model is to order it which takes around two months to get. At one time the Mini had the best resale value of any car except a Mercedes 600. Anyway, I'm very happy with the MSP and the extra 9 grand I saved.

The best thing about the mini is the resale value. I belive they are in the top 5 cars for resale value. Where is our car.... Hmmm LAST!!!!!

That's debateable... I think the MSP did better in the 700ft slaloms and the Mini did better in the 600ft slalom. It really depends on what magazine, too... lol I think SCC handles better than C&D...

Check:
http://money.cnn.com/2004/08/23/pf/autos/kbb_resale_value/

"How to ruin your resale value - If you personalize your vehicle with after market add-ons and fancy paint, don't think you're increasing the car's value. Customizing a car will usually reduce its value."

Something to think about...

And pretty darn small, that's the only reason I didn't even consider one.

ahahah Well yea, have you ever heard someone say I think im getting a MINI because it has so much potential for storage? lol mini coopers are supposed to be, well mini.
However I have no room to talk I feel the same way you do. (silly)

Well, you can also look at it the other way: the MINI doesn't require lots of space to be stored (itself) lol :)
