Well folks, I need some help with some answers please.

I want to upgrade the speakers in my car, to include fronts, rears, and a sub, but the wife is giving me a hard time. She won't let me change out the stock stereo we have 'cause she loves the 6 disc in-dash changer.

Without taking apart my whole dash assembly, could someone please tell me if there are any rca hook ups or anything else I could do to set-up the speakers and amp I want, and still leave the stereo in for her?

Thanks for the help!

Easy! Using the rear speakers off the harness (behind the stereo), insert a line out converter. Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. sell em' fairly cheap. Run RCA's off the box with a wire to the rear of the car for an Amp, along with amp power on wire. Also, don't forget to run power from the battery as well as a ground (can do it in the rear). I did this. Works great! I then put in a double din Kenwood which negated the line out converter, but it is still there. Take a look at my website:

Also take a look in the car audio section. Many people there have also gone with this kind of setup.

Thanks for the quick help fellas, you guys rock. Now I can be happy and the wife can stop her nagging!

rmedoc, I was on vacation this summer and got to hook up with 1stmp3inNH, one of our resident audio experts and the mod of the audio seciton...and we discussed this very thing....as i wanted to do the same thing your wife does...keep the stock 6 disc changer...we talked about options and all....then when I got home another memeber had started a thread a while later and the discussion went on.....you will find that thread here

http://forum.protegemp3.com/vbb222/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6620

after doing my homework....I did exactly as you and your wife want....I kept my stock head unit.....upgraded all the door speakers......amped them...and added a sub in the back...

the system sounds awsome.....

And to directly answer one of your quesitons...NO the stock unit does NOT have RCA outs....and if you get an amp like the Alpine V-Power series with line level inputs, LOC's are not required either.

Check out the thread...its about three pages long if I remember correctly.....and feel free to ask me any questions about the install I did.

Thank you everyone for the great advice. You guys rock!

Sir Nuke, your help is greatly apprecaited, and the info on that link is wonderful. Looks like I can start picking out my speakers and sub now. Thanks again
