racing seat thread.

I just went to speedgear with my friend and him and Farid were talking about seats. I heard that recaros are the safest out there. I also heard Bride is now made in taiwan not japan b/c of some arguement. The Bride factory in japan still manufactures seats but I can't think of the name off the top of my head.

hmm... is corbeau made in japan... or iraq? :P

good write up lang

corbeau is made in europe.

sparco and recaro are one of the safest brands out there being that a lot of OEM manufacturers entrust them with making their seats. Sparco though dominates because almost any motorsport you see has the race car driver wearing sparco or the car itself has safety equipment made by sparco (anything from F1, rallying, nascar, etc.). Recaro however does make anything from OEM car seats, baby seats, and airplane chairs.

as for the feel, it really depends on what your preference as far as how stiff or how soft the seats are, how supportive they need to be and in what areas and how big you are physically. a 'RACE' seat should keep you planted in restricting you from moving around, a 'SPORT' seat should keep you planted in the chair better but still be able to be liveable for everyday use.

the bride reclinables to me are too soft for most harder track use runs but are fairly comfortable for daily use (the older material looked a little uglier but felt a little more comfy).

the sparcos are better if you like a more supportive feel (kinda like if you sleep on a firmer feel mattress then a softer cushiony matress). they crash test these to high standards have excellent support and cushioning.

recaros i've sat in some (mainly the integra and civic type r versions) and they felt just as comfortable and supportive.

my friend has recaros in his ek9, feels good.

too bad about corbeau.. seems my interior is edm :P

Recaro made the seats for the Del Sol Si right? God I loved those seats. I wish I could have taken them with me.

i got some DAD racing seats, most comfortable racing seats ive sat in, and ive sat in most racing seat manufacturers...like sparco etc...i still love my seats...although they are kind of on the heavy side, that don't matter! =), fitment was kinda a issue since you have to basically fabricate your own brackets, but once they are in, they are awesome.

Not like you'll be the first JDM car with a Euro interior. I've seen quite a few cars from Japan in mags. with Sparco interiors. Besides, I'll be EDM with you. lol.

i say buy the ones u like not the ones that come from a certain country.... who cares about jdm or edm. just another fad that will be gone in a year or so.

anyone know the phone number to Wedge Engineering? i want to call them for seat brackets.

wedge engineering is the manufacturer that laser cuts the brackets for sparco so you might have to go through sparco to get them. keep in mind the wedge ones are generally cut and spec'd for sparco seats so you may or may not need to modify it if you have another brand of seats.

as for the edm and jdm thing, a lot of high quality seats on the market are made in europe. recaro also originated from germany. kinda funny in the "high end" car market it's a little rare to see a german made seat in an italian car and vice versa, LOL.

hmm those are nice, look like brides. no idea about those though, never saw/heard of them until now

anyone familiar with the jic-magic seats? these things look great, and i'm quite partial to jic projects (if you couldn't guess...)

any info or comments on them?

I loved them when I sat in a display model. I'm sure they be even better in the car. Between those or the Sparcos I don't think you can go wrong either way. Price will probably be better on the JICs though.

apc's. i had to redrill them to fit the wedge brackets. the brackets fit 3 out of 4 holes.

How much did you pay for your harnesses? And can you seperate the sholder straps from the waist straps so you could tuck them away and retain stock seat belt use? Thanks a lot...
