ive seen alot of posts on this header lately.
ive had this header for 8 months now and i have both o2's hooked up & the egr. the only thing i dont like is the crome job,
it could be better. other than that its awsome!

*i do have a cel

oh crap... just when we thought we had a good header. Yeah, please give us more detail why it's throwing a CEL.

hot dang!!!! i'm on it!

[edit]

did you do the conversion yourself, have someone else do it, or did Ric do it for you? thanks. please keep us posted. this is not a good sign.

ok here's the deal...i got the header from ric 8 months ago.
took it to a really good muffler shop had them install it and do all the mods. cost me right around $100 for it. when i picked the car up from them everything was hooked up right so i was very happy. no cel light, drove it for 75 miles or so boom it came on.
i looked under the car, checked every connection everything was fine.:wtf: i even reset the ecu a couple more times. so i talked to some mazda tec guys and i think i know why it comes on. oh buy the way the car runs no different from the cel light being on. maybe eats a little more gas thats it.
here's the deal on the cel... stock our car has a cat between the two o2's. when you get this header or any header that gets rid of the first cat you change the voltage between the two o2's because the cats not there. now i ''think'' that if you move the secound o2 past the only cat you have now it will show different volts and might work.*** ric @ racing mazda never told me that i wouldnt have a cel i just took it upon my self to find out. i really wanted to get this header so i kinda was the tester. hope this help's out peace, mike

What is wrong with the chrome? Do you have a closer pic to show what you mean? Is it pealing or what?

Of course you're going to get a CEL. In fact, I don't even think AWR's dual O2 bung setup is going to prevent a CEL reliably. The ECU is looking at the first O2 reading and seeing raw exhaust. The second O2 sensor is supposed to see cleaner exhaust due to a cat. Simply putting a O2 sensor at the beginning of the header and at the end of the header most likely won't do enough to prevent a CEL. If I get a header, I fully expect to purchase a O2 signal modifier to get rid of the CEL.

I agree, this CEL is most likely not going to put the ECU into limp mode (degrade performance). But it would be nice not to have it. But this CEL going on is nothing astonishing...

all the shiznites in the world! what is going on??? dammit! i don't want the light either! and what is this with degrading performance? why spend all that money to have degraded performance? that's it... i'm rethinking this! damn, so close!!!

Guys, I really don't think you have to worry about degraded performance. Ask yourself, "Why Mazda would degrade performance for something happening in the exhaust?" This (O2 sensor checking cat performance) is common in many makes/models of cars and there has always been some speculation as far as a "limp mode" with any CEL. This has thusfar been untrue for cat performance. For an extra $20 you can get a CEL eliminator for the O2 sensor. It's a nice looking header. I think it will be my next investment. Just don't get too disappointed over the CEL. It's an easy fix.

Yeah what kind of performance gains are you getting. Do you know what your MPG is now?

Who carries CEL eliminator for the O2 sensor?

the real question is; do you FEEL any real performance gain / decrease?

(lol) Yeah you guys are really jumping the gun on this CEL business. Just get the O2 CEL Eliminator. I'm not sure if the $20 will work all that great all the time. Theres one LinuxRacr mentioned for around $50 that has a RISC processor that emulates driving conditions.

Argh ... I do not want to drive around with that annoying light on my dash.
i agree! for now my light is out of my dash.''getto fix tell i get the problem solved".

we could just do what Homer Simpson does and slap a piece of tape over the CEL...

yes, i feel a nice increase. no decrease even with the cel on.
if i reset my ecu and drive, it run's the same.
