quick question about oil.

ok i bought 4 quarts of Quacker high performance full synthetic oil. mobile was kinda pricey...but when i went to walmart to see if they'd take my oil i saw they had mobil 1 down to the same price as quacker. $4.22. so next oil change i'll get it from there. but no one had the damn k&n oil filter. but advanced auto parts said they were getting more in tomorrow so i'll wait till then. i also picked up some new Prestone for the radiator flush. anyone know where i can dump radiator fluid? firestone said they don't take it and walmart says they don't even want to touch the stuff. suggestions?

alright thanks for that. i called them and they had 2 left! so i ran down there and just got done with the oil change. the stuff i had before wasn't synthetic as was burnt out. smelt bad and looked black as night. soon as i let it warm back up with the new stuff i test drove it around the neighborhood and it truely makes a differance. smoother and quieter. wonder what the crap was that was in there before. but my old filter was a carquest one, never heard of them making oil filters. full synthetic from now on. it's amazing for just being oil.

Yeah, it can make a bit of difference. Bear in mind though, that oil turning black is not necessarily a sign of a bad oil or filter - oil is meant to hold soot and other particles in suspension that are too small for the filter to catch, and will turn darker as it does so. In fact, a good oil will turn darker quicker than a bad one. Just stick to manufacturer recommended change intervals and you should be ok :)

good topic. but if the oil stays cleaner longer dosn't that mean the filter is working better and catching the small particles?

I don't claim to be an expert by any means, but I believe that the particles that turn oil "dirty" are too small to be trapped by filters - i.e. submicron size. Probably the "soot and carbon" products from combustion, whereas oil filters are designed to trap metallic wear particles that are big enough to actually cause bearing damage.

mobil 1 filter?

what about using the mobil 1 oil filter........looks like OEM size, but filters smaller particles!!!!!!!!

i actually saw that when i was there for filters but i didn't know what size so i just grabbed k&n, happy with that.

i have k&n filter and amsoil oil 10W30 for more than a year now and my P5 runs so smooth and better. when i changed it last month it wasnt that dirty. amsoil claim that you don't have to change the oil for a year, but i changed it after 6 months and it felt ok when i changed it..
