Question for those who run MBCs

What MBC are you running? and are there major differences in the MBC you are running to any other MBC you have run or are possibly looking at?

I want to run one but I dont want to spend a bunch of cash on it if there are no major differences. i know certain ones will have different max psi's. other than that they all look a like to me. i also understand that some of them dont need you to T off the line they do that themselves. just performance wise is there any real difference?

honestly i have the greddy profec b spec 2.Its a pain in the ass to tune. But the turbo spools up so much faster.its a nice upgrade.but just wish i can tune it better.

i have the turbosmart boost "T" . works like a charm. there are several cheaper models that would probably be just as good though.

I have the TurboSmart Single Stage. 1st stage is normal boost 2nd stage is Hi boost. I find that I run High boost all the time so I really see no need for a SS.

I put the flip switch in my Center Console Storage. Its out of the way and within easy reach to flip it.

the single stage ?? that means that on the low setting it runs purely off the factory wastegate pressure which is 9psi !! then you can add to that on the second stage. the only way to get stock boost as you "low" setting is to put that MBC in line with the factory boost solenoid.....that sir is a NO NO !
you need the DUAL stage set to a high and low setting with no factory solenoid being used. that is the proper way to have 2 pre set levels on this car.

so what i'm gathering is there is no major difference. they all pretty much run the same. so i can get a cheap one off of ebay? right?

i wouldnt go that far ! there are different types that do different things. ffor example ball & spring type MBC's promote a very fast spool-up. they also have a tendancy to spike very high. bleeder types usually wont spool as fast, but are much less likely to spike. the best MBC's will incorporate both methods. that is what the turbo smart does. there is light spring pressure on the inlet side of the MBC. that will allow your boost to begin building fast. and on the outlet side of the MBC is the adjustable bleeder system. that lets you dial in your boost with minimal spiking. there are other BC's that do this too, i would look for one like that.

The SS is running off the factory WG pressure only and it hits 10PSI. That's why I don't really run it and why I said I would not recommend the SS. The dual stage would be cool I guess but Meh.

would this be ok? i just don't want to spend like 80-90 bucks on something that i could spend 30 on if the 30 dollar will work as good as a 90 dollar one

actually i think i saw one like this available at turbosmart. thats why i ask

it looks just like the early model of the turbosmart unit, but i have no idea what is inside that thing. all you can do is try i guess. i understand trying to save $$ when you can get the same results, but the MBC is one place i refused to cheap out. a huge spike or leaky MBC can kill a motor real quick, and for what....to save $40 ??? if we were talking about a $200 difference, thats another story. like an electronic BC, sure the are nice and you can tweak on the fly, but it aint worth $300 if you ask me. i would avoid one of those "in cabin" set ups on this car too. it is hard enough trying to get a single wire through the firewall. it would be a PITA trying to get vac. hose in and back out on this thing. keep it under the hood and simple.

Infantry Manual Boost Controller

tru-boost maybe i'll just run the turbosmart T controller then. like you said its 40bucks more and i dont want to blow my motor with a huge spike.

From what I've heard, due to the restrictor in the nipple from the turbo, not all mbc are created equal on this car. I've heard a few people had problems with the forge mbc, but many people have had success with turbosmart.
