Question about XBOX Mod Chips

Ive recently discovered that our cat has been chewing on our XBOX games and I want to get a mod chip so I can back them up on the HD in case the freakin thing eats more.

Which chip is the easiest to use/install. Im not looking to hack the box and change its OS, just backup the games I have now.

Thanks

Your cat is chewing the cd's? Isn't that what cd cases are for?

Werd hehe. I would just make the cat not have access to that stuff.

Either way I am not sure what chips are available that wouldn't constitute a Hack.

I heard there is a BIOS upgrade that can allow you to backup games without needing a chip, someone else might be able to help out on that one.

Not getting rid of the cat ... its not like your parents got rid of you when u did something bad :) ... but yea the cat chewed on 2 cases (opening them in the process) and put a few teeth marks in the disks. Luckily they were crappy games (those $3 volleyball and golf games from Blockbuster you get at holidays).

Holy crap thats alot of info --- and 99% of it I dont understand lol

Im looking for a chip that I can open up the 'box', plug it in, and be done with it? I dont want to solder, install new O/S, and all that other stuff they allow u to do ... just want to backup my games.

well they have chips that has solderless kits, has little clamps or something you put on pins. you're going to have to use another BIOS/OS for any modding to my understanding its already on the chip. i think all chips should be able to go in "off mode" so you can play games normally and on xbox live.

Ive seen that Xbox Connect program where u dont have to pay the fee for Xbox live -- do u know if that connects with just xbconnect users or into the Xbox live network as well? Thats basically the only reason holding us back .. dont want ANOTHER bill each month :)

xbconnect is just with other xbconnect users - no live.

ya xbox-scene is alot of info when you're new to it, but it's pretty easy to jump right in and start figuring stuff out. depending on hwo many games you're gonna be backing up, you may need to upgrade the hdd. along with games, you can also load up emulators, movies and music. it's pretty much a sweet little media center.

they have a good amount of solderless chips now, so don't be concerned with that.

gl on getting your box modded.

Nobody offers the completely simple solution you want. There are some decent solderless chips but the problem is all of the mod chips do not come with a BIOS on it that will allow you to copy the games to the hard drive -- so at a minimum you'll have to find a good BIOS for the chip you get, install it, etc, and even then if you don't upgrade the hard drive you'll only be able to fit about 3 games on it anyway.

There is also a way to mod the BIOS without installing ANY mod chip at all...but still it's not as simple as you're looking for. You'll have to "hire" somebody to do it for you if you want it to be that easy.

The problem with the xecuter chips now is that the BIOSes for them are tougher to come by -- they're no longer in "the usual places" unfortunately (only for executer chips). I have the executer3 though - REALLY nice chip - some sweet features in it for sure.

What you really need Lauren is an old-style PS2 and then just pop in a hard drive and buy a disc called "HD Advance" and you're gold -- no modding needed and it lets you play your games straight off the hard drive.

i remember reading that there was a mod that you didnt have to open up the box. it was a software i think. also changes the dashboard. i cant remember what it was called exacly but i saw it on G4 Tv or whatever they call Tech TV now.

Yup, there is. Problem is it's not as simple as Lauren is looking for. I can't remember for sure but I think it may even require opening the box in order to do it......but yeah, once it's done there's no mod chip actually installed.

im not sure but i think i remember that the show said it required no opening but i dont know. i have no experience with this because i live on my online play.

yeah, modding an xbox has a bit of a learning curve to it.

the chip is the easiest part of the whole thing, but it can be a fun project.

there is supposed to be a way to flash the bios with one of those aladdin type things that can modify games. I can't remember what it's called. i don't think it required opening the xbox.
