2003 Protege 5
Just got my first car, which is an 03 Protege5. I love the car, its got the leather seats, and the power moonroof, a real nice first car, except the 5 disk cd player doesnt work, and there is no aux jack for my ipod, I was looking at touch screen radios on amazon, and i was wondering, Would a 7 inch touch screen head unit fit in the space where the radio is, or would it be to big or to small? please help

That will work. That one is a double din so you won't need the install kit. You will still need the harness. The double din means it's the same size as the stock radio. The first one you posted is one where the screen comes out and then flips up. The second one is just a screen that is right there.

the first one was a double din too, look at the technical details about 1/4 of the way down the page

Doh! Mike, swag is right. The first one is double din too. In both of the ones that you posted, all you need is the wiring harness.

iirc, isnt the opening in the has slightly more than 2 din slots? I know when I installed my 7" tocuh screen in my last car it needed a mounting kit and there was a 1/2" bezel on the bottom and top.

was the stereo din and a half or something? cause i'm pretty sure the car has a double din... but i'm not certain

There are probably some 6 disc oem players in the FS section for cheap that'll work and fit directly and also sylfex dot com used to make a aux input board that plugs into the cassette tape module plug on the oem 6 disc. Might be able to find one of those here too. Easy and no one will break in to steal oem radios much. Win win unless you need to compete in audio contests or have video onboard. Not sure what 5 disc players came in these cars.....

if you buy the pyle post up what its like. i had pyles for the rear seats and they were NOT HORRIBLE. had to view them straight on, but that was about 5/6 yrs ago. curious, cuz i need to do something. or if u choose not to buy that one, ill sell u my stock one for the price it'll cost me to get that :D

Grom audio makes an aux plug in or ipod plug in that goes directly to back of the stereo fyi

installed the pyle tv. not bad. not my pioneer avic z2 i had, but that was stolen and if this does it wont be so bad for 200 instead of 2000

let us know how it goes in the long run, sometimes those things work great at first and after a while start bugging out. i had an inexpensive touchscreen at one point that worked great for about a month...

Sorry I havent updated in a while, never got a radio yet. Unfortunately the guy who ownd it b4 me didnt take care of the car. only had it since june, so far ive replaced the radiator, water pump, the belts were completely shreaded, the air intake hose was being held together by tape, i still have to fix a few other things in the car. there may be an oil leak somewhere, the suspension might b going bad, and either the pulleys for the ac and defroster or the alternator is going bad cause it screeches real loud... Im really upset cause i love the car, the body style, and everything about the car. I just wish the previous owner kept better care of it, so i had to put the stereo system on the back burner for a little bit...

I'll sell you a Head unit, installation bracket for this car, AMPLIFIeR!! and 4 speakers for $250 shipped.

Slight off topic, but can someone explain the double-din holes on the factory P5 radio. There appear to be 3 on each side with the center one being elongated. How are you supposed to put the tools into these holes? Any help would be appreciated.
