Purchasing a CX-9

Just got home from the dealership. Bought my wife a brand new fully loaded 2009 crystal white pearl mica CX9 GT. We ended up paying 32k out the door.

yup its 4k now

Congrats on your new babies (the car and the bun in the oven).

I'm about to close the deal on mine, too.
Where did you get the info confirming the cash back now at $4k?

That would be great news for me, but checking
http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/displayRegionalIncentives.action
under "special purchase offers" it only shows:
"2009 Mazda CX-9 : 0.0% APR for up to 36 MONTHS PLUS $1,500 Customer Cash"

That confirms the updated financing deal, but oddly it is not preceded by "$4,000 Customer Cash OR 0.0% ..."
In fact there's no old "$3,500 customer cash" even listed.
I put in my zip code 11520 -- is it possible Mazda dropped the cash part of the incentives for the Northeast? (nailbyt)

I dont think they are advertising it.
A few dealers actually told me about it.
Those were in mass.

Where are you in the Northeast?
Maybe we can go double team a dealer or two :)

Ahh a secret handshake deal, eh? lol
Well, I'm on Long Island, NY.
I was going to use that "$4,000" with my dealer, but looks like I probably can't. He originally said $26,200, then went down to o $25,700, because of the NY Auto Show bonus cash. Now, he said, that's expired, but his best offer is $25,990, which is still under the $26,200. As I've mentioned before, that does include power driver seat and heated front seats/mirrors.
I'm thinkin' this is still a good deal, and hoping I can get him to toss in one more extra, like Sirius, or cargo cover/net, floor mats/mud flaps -- something!

Where are you?

fyi -- according to http://www.carpricedatabase.com/

Mazda Dealer Engagement Cash: This is one of dealer incentives, so car shoppers would not see it listed on purchase invoice. The only thing you would notice is the purchasing price becomes very low.

2009 Mazda CX-9 $4,000 Dealer Engagement Cash (April was $3,000)

2008 Mazda CX-9 $6,250 Customer Rebate, up from $5,250 in April

Man, I'm starting to get a little tempted to ask my dealer what he's got left in the 2008's. $6,250 is some serious incentivizing. lol

On the 2009 I'm negotiating for, they went up from $25,700 to $25,990 on May 1st because the $500 NY Auto Show bonus coupon "expired." Of course, what he didn't tell me (or didn't know at that time) was forget the puny $500, he now has this $1,000 extra in May to play with!

I'm sure Mazda has never thrown out this kind of cash incentives in its history. The recession is bad, boys, but this is a little bit of silver lining while it lasts.

they had huge incentives on the mazdaspeed6 also

As well it should. Gotta help all those guys going through their mid-life crisis get into that red zippy sportster asap.

Most everyone I know with a speed6 is under 30. Hardly midlife, I think the mid lifers go for the rx8 and the soccer moms get the cx-9. Win win for everyone.

the $1500 rebate is not combinable with the $4000 to dealer correct?
Also does anyone know if the mazda loyalty rebate can be aquired if you dont currently own a mazda?

Logically speaking, I wouldn't think you would get the loyalty rebate if you didn't own a Mazda.

just check in again, apparently you can call mazda NA and get a "prefered" mazda customer coupon worth another $500 off.

1st time poster here. I appreciate all the advice I'm reading. My wife first introduced me to the cx-9 a couple weeks ago and it seems like a good vehicle for our growing family. I'm starting to get price quotes from dealers in my area (Twin Cities). My goal is to get quotes now and then walk in with a check at the end of the month and see who wants to really deal.

I'm trying to understand how to negotiate for the best price. I'm looking at a stock 2009 GT with moon roof and navi options. I've been quoted anywhere from $36,400 out-the-door ($6.5k off MSRP) to $41,000 out-the-door. It seems like some people on this forum are getting better deals.

My understanding is that invoice for this package is around $36,901 (base: $32,567/ moon: $1686/ assistance: $1978). The MSRP is $40,135. Dealers are getting $4k back from Mazda this month.

So is my thinking correct that if a dealer wants to sell this package it should be selling for around $33k+ttl? Or should I be looking for more savings?

I appreciate any advice!

The best way to negotiate is to NOT negotiate. You're off to a good start by asking what deals others got.

Find that out, add in any applicable rebates and incentives you can find, and set a price. Then go to the dealer and stick to that price. Only after they agree do you spring your trade on them, also with a non negotiable but fair price.

Salesmen count on the negotiation to confuse and intimidate the buyer.

Hey, say what? Don't just toss that up without more info! Sounds too good to be true.
You know of anyone who actually did this?
Did they call customer service, or what?
Is there a super-secret double-magic word you have to say before they give this?

By the by, on getting the Mazda loyalty cash if you don't have a Mazda:
If someone in your family has one, you still might be able to get it.

I have heard some salesmen will forge the paperwork to make this happen to close the deal. It happened for a guy on another board.
I'd love to save another grand, but frankly doubt I'd want to do business with a dealership that unethical. (yupnope)

For the owner loyalty $1000 rebate the dealer photocopied a copy of my other mazdas registration to send in to mazda for the rebate.
