Purchasing a CX-9

1st time poster here. I appreciate all the advice I'm reading. My wife first introduced me to the cx-9 a couple weeks ago and it seems like a good vehicle for our growing family. I'm starting to get price quotes from dealers in my area (Twin Cities). My goal is to get quotes now and then walk in with a check at the end of the month and see who wants to really deal.

I'm trying to understand how to negotiate for the best price. I'm looking at a stock 2009 GT with moon roof and navi options. I've been quoted anywhere from $36,400 out-the-door ($6.5k off MSRP) to $41,000 out-the-door. It seems like some people on this forum are getting better deals.

My understanding is that invoice for this package is around $36,901 (base: $32,567/ moon: $1686/ assistance: $1978). The MSRP is $40,135. Dealers are getting $4k back from Mazda this month.

So is my thinking correct that if a dealer wants to sell this package it should be selling for around $33k+ttl? Or should I be looking for more savings?

I appreciate any advice!

I went in without all the info from the mags and ended up getting 8K off of the stick. My car's list was 40,910 (similar to what you are looking at) and I paid 32,910 + Tx & Tags. I would shoot for that number. I had another dealer walk away at 7k off the same msrp.

My message don't settle for what you see in Edmunds as incentives!

Good luck

i cant even get dealers to give me a friggen quote I kep getting this come on down and drive it BS.
Once I say I have test driven and have a check in hand ready to buy, I stop getting emails.

No wonder these assholes are all going out of business. They have no concept of customer service at all.

That's true of a lot of business. We live in one of those towns that's basiccally owned by one family. We have businesses going under left and right here because they can't afford their leases, but the owner would rather sit on empty buildings than give in and lower their rates. Greed breeds astounding levels of ignorance.

Hey, say what? Don't just toss that up without more info! Sounds too good to be true.
You know of anyone who actually did this?
Did they call customer service, or what?
Is there a super-secret double-magic word you have to say before they give this?

I called the Mazda customer service yesterday and specifically asked for the coupon. They added my name and address to their database and told me that the $500 coupon was on its way. I don't know if I will end up buying the cx-9 but I figured this coupon was worth having just in case. The call took less than 5 minutes.

By the by, on getting the Mazda loyalty cash if you don't have a Mazda:
If someone in your family has one, you still might be able to get it.

I have heard some salesmen will forge the paperwork to make this happen to close the deal. It happened for a guy on another board.
I'd love to save another grand, but frankly doubt I'd want to do business with a dealership that unethical. (yupnope)

Damn JB, 1sty -- here's to ya both (drinks)

1sty, if I could kiss your feet, I'd (almost, maybe, kinda, sorta) would do that right now. (kiss)

That coupon's gonna buy me a Sirius radio install (which should have been standard, anyway.)

Why the hell would you pay $500 for a siruis install?
That had better be for the tuner and wiring too.
Although I am betting we could walk you through it.

speaking of sirius can I get the best of xm or do i need a special tuner?

I cancelled mine some time back but at that point XM tuners were getting the best of Siruis and Sirius tuners were getting the best of XM. Dont know how that has been bastardazied now.
IN my opinion, If I have one, I should have everything from the other.

OK, maybe the Sirius and splash guards.
This being good ol' New York, I'll be taxed on the $500 'coupon,' so its real value is maybe $450. Since Edmunds says the radio option is $430 ($344 invoice), so I figured that's what it's good for.

I don't know what's involved in the install; I figure they put in the Sirius tuner module and attach a wire to the "Sat" switch that's already on the radio control dial. Can't be much more to it than that.

By the way, I appreciate the offer to walk me through it; I'm sure you guys and crutchfield.com would help a lot.
But no way am I tearing apart the dash on my brand new CX-9 to get to the radio innards and crossing my fingers I can put it back exactly like it was!

You know I change my mind WAY TOO MUCH.

I decided to look into an Xterra as I really wanted a truck but need an SUV for the wife+kids+2 large dogs.

MSRP is $30,200 for a loaded up one with the SE (I get my tan leather) trim including destination charge and a dealer is quoting me with all fees, and out the door price of $25,900 after the $2000 rebate on the Xterra.

I called another dealer to give them a chance to do better but I think I am gonna get this sucker ordered tomorrow.

purchasing a new cx-9

Guys

New member. I'm in the market for a new cx-9. Test drove last week with the kids. Really liked the car. The salesman told me they cut back production and they are getting hard to come by(full of sh..) Great site with a lot of valuable info. Lots of members from my area(long island, ny). I'm hoping to bust a move by the end of the month. I'm looking to trade my present car , so I'm getting that ready as soon as we get nice weather to wash and wax. I have more questions and comments will post more in the next couple of days. Right now just checking in.

Thanks

Hi and welcome, BigLou, from a fellow Long Islander. Don't know whether you're Nassau or Suffolk, but I'm dealing right now with Wantagh Mazda, which came well-recommended, and so far they have been fair and responsive -- and most importantly -- low-priced.
(Hope they're not the same ones who gave you the BS about "getting hard to come by" lol).

I'm in Nassau and yes it was wantagh mazda. I've dealt with them before. sEVERAL years ago when my boys were babies the wife wanted a MPV. The price for the car was good , but they low balled me on the trade. Went to country mazda and got 2k more for the trade and same price for the car. I'm going to bid it out and see what kind of responses I get. I did that tactic when we purchased an oddessy couple of years ago and I saved alot. Still not sure on colors and other options , also I test drove a GT but want to see how a touring drives.

Ah, OK. Well, good that you're getting bids. That was my approach, too. I didn't get to Country Mazda, as it was farther than I wanted to go and I thought the Wantagh deal was good.
Is Country a good dealership overall to work with?

Funny you mention the trade-in angle, my next step was to take my trade-in to see what Wantagh would offer, but last night I got into an accident on the way home, and now can't do that until I get the thing fixed. In fact, I'll probably not even bother now, since it's a '99 Hyundai Sonata w/106,000 miles, and can't be worth much anyway.
I'm getting a Sport, which isn't as popular as the Touring and GT, so maybe it has better availability.
By the way, did you see the posting on Page 11 of this thread about the $500 "preferred customer" coupon? Go for it!
I'm waiting on mine to arrive Mon. or Tues. and then I'll spring it on my salesman.

Sorry to hear that, hope everyone was ok. You might want to consider donating your car. As a trade in they are going to give you very little. Something that old with high mileage will get auctioned for chump change. I donated a car that wasn't even running and at tax time took in close to an extra 1k. something to consider. My car is 5 years old with low mileage(04 mountaineer) so I'm hoping for a fair price even though its a SUV. Worse case I'll sell it privitely. The only problem with that is the possible nut jobs that can come to your house(I've experienced that before) There are at least 4 mazda dealers within a half hours drive from where you live, so your not stuck with one dealer like many people on this forum are.

Thanks for the sentiment and advice, Lou!
Those are good suggestions.
Yes, I and the other driver were unharmed. I wasn't going that fast, thank God, so even my airbag didn't go off.

I'm as happy as I can be with my dealer (before the sale. lol)
And now that I've got the extra $500 off coupon and hopefully no fine print to make it invalid, I'm closing the deal tomorrow morning for sure.
I went back by the dealership today and just sat in a showroom CX-9, in all the seats.
It actually made me feel better about my decision. Did not seem as cramped as it had felt the first time I got into one. I also noticed how solid this cute truck seems, as well. The doors, pillars, etc. have a substantial look and feel.

I've been searching, researching and negotiating for months -- first on the Chevy Traverse, now on the CX-9 and I'm ready for this long, strange trip to end, I'm tellin' ya.

For the owner loyalty $1000 rebate the dealer photocopied a copy of my other mazdas registration to send in to mazda for the rebate.

do you think the dealer would still honor this $1000 rebate if i've recently purchased a cx-9? i'm assuming they might NOT mind as the assumption is that they're not the ones giving me the rebate right?

any thoughts?

thanks
