Protege5 rear Sway bar help????

The P5's stock struts don't have reinforced sway bar tabs. They will break eaisily.

Ok I have heard mixedhtings on this topic. I have a 2002.5 and would like to upgrade the rear sway bar. The site says they bolted it up to a stock car and it made a huge difference. Do the different year protege5s have different struts? I have also heard you can buy new endlinks for them will this alleviate the problem?

Looking to get an answer this too. Don't want to replace stock struts. Do I have any options without removing stock struts in regards to rear sway bar? got a Progress on my 91 teg and It is unbelievable. I need a thicker one on the 5.

I think....recinforce the stock struts:

those are 'prototype' brackets when Racing Beat was developing the MP3 back in 2001.

the sway bar tab on the rear struts is kinda flimsy, but, I have autocrossed with a MP3 rear sway bar (20mm) attached to the stock tabs, and after a full season of autocrossing, the tabs are still perfectly fine.

I'd say go for it, just get the AWR sway bar and install it, I highly doubt you will break it under normal driving condition, I mean, if mine lasted a full season of autoxing, I don't see how it will break in daily driving.

Thats good to know, but I have read here one case of someone that nearly lost his swaybar...the car had 4 people in it and I remember he saying that some strange and loud noise comming from under the car, like metal to metal. He pulled and notice that the sway was broken in the end links.
So...maybe is just a weight wise solution, and thats why the MP3 struts come reinforced.

I am interested in a sway bar too. What bar do you NOT have to replace your struts? Mazdaspeed, racing beat?

I have been running the Racingbeat MP3 rear sway bar for almost 2 years now on my 2001 LX . I reinforced the mounting tab by creating a piece of 2" band iron stock from the top bolt on the bottom of the strut to the endlink mounting tab . Then I mounted the endlinnk to the tab . Its worked great so far .

AWR makes one too...

You may not have to change the struts, but if I were you, replace or reinforce. Its wise in my opinion!

I'll re-inforce. Until they break, then it will give me a reason to get new struts. Look honey, they just broke clean off :D
