Prince Valorum's 95 626 Build Thread

I've been getting a clunking sound from the front right when I have the wheel turned to the right and go over a bump, such as exiting a parking lot. I'm not sure what it is, but that's the corner I did some work on last spring. There's a pretty tight S curve in the road on the way home from work and the pavement's a bit uneven there. There's a sign that says 20mph, but that's ridiculous. It's easy to go faster..

After hitting that patch, it felt like my steering loosened up a bit, and now there's some play in the wheel before it 'catches' and the car starts to turn. I'm not sure what happened. There wasn't any tell tale sounds like a "bang" or the sound of something breaking, it just sounded like I was dragging my driver's side mud flap a bit under compression. :D

I checked it all, and everything seems solid. There's no play or slop in the tie rod ends on either side that I can detect, and the ball joints seem to be good. The ball joint boot is split a bit on the driver's side (non noise-producing side) just from being old.

What now? I don't really have the confidence to take corners hard any more. :(

I'm not ruling that out, but I'd be surprised. I've only had the Illuminas on for 3 years and maybe 15k miles or so. I'd expect more from them than that, and I haven't heard any other "bad strut" noises. I'm kind of stumped.

Both rear strut mounts have gone out, and they made a lot of noise going over bumps. This doesn't do that, it's only when the wheel it turned to the right, and I go over a bump, usually going down a driveway entrance where the road is at an angle coming back up, if that makes sense.

Maybe it's the spring binding? Is there anything to be worried about if that's the case?

^After reading some on MX6.com, I think it's a control arm bushing.

It's Evan's new P5 from down south. It's in crazy condition, despite the 220k miles it has on it. It's only a matter of time before it's got a KL and a turbo under the hood... We'll be the light and dark side!

Oh hello!

It's hard to tell, but that's a Corksport rear strut tower brace. And it's from a P5, so there's interchangeability there!

Since I can't really find any companies that make a front one, this one's also off of a P5.

Unfortunately it doesn't bolt right up.

Don't mind the citronella candles I used as weights, lulz!

Looks like I should be able to drill some new holes and bolt it right up. If not, I'll have to cut the things off and make new ones that fit! I'm not sure if it'll clear the ZE intake mani, so we'll see!

Some said this day would never come...

My neighbor towed it with his E350 Club Wagon. He said he didn't even feel it back there! :D

Back in Josh's garage, awaiting final reassembly

He should be able to drive it home Sunday night. :D

Provided we don't run into any problems with the old nuts, bolts, fasteners, clips, etc. Also hoping the glass guy can get here today to set the windshield.

Fingers crossed! I know that Wes wants to drive it and you want it out of your hair.

3pm-9pm today....truck is 99.99% reassembled! And that was with a few household related breaks, mowed the lawn, and took care of an ant problem in one of the bathrooms. lol

Just waiting on the glass guy to reinstall the windshield on Monday, then I can put the cowl and wipers back on, and she's all set!

*sigh*......fine. I'll go outside right now, in my boxers and slippers, open the garage back up, and snap a pic.....just for you!
