Priming Turbo?

Hey guys,

I have a question about priming the turbo. Im installing a new exhaust mani and I was told when you put the turbo back in, you need to prime it. Is this true? If it is, do you just turn the car over with the plug wires disconnected or is there an easier way? Thanks in advance.

You could do that or it would be easier to pull the ECU fuse, you only need to

prime a brand new turbo or one that has been sitting for a while.

yea just pull the fuel pump fuse and crank the car over the the turbo gets oil flowing thru it. when ever i turbo my car i usually crank it over till i can feel the oil comming out the return side, then i connect the return line and fire it up

you may not need to fully prime it if it is not new and hasnt sat for an extended amount of time.
just fill it with some oil (thru the oil line fitting) before installing back on and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the input. It's still the stock turbo and it shouldn't be sitting too long. I'll put some oil in the line just as a precautionary measure. Thanks again.

Yeah that's exactly what I have done when replacing the turbo. Just fill the turbo with some oil with my finger or something to hold oil over the return and spin the compresor a little bit.

When I got my new turbo from Garrett, the install directions said to fill the oil feed hole with oil, then turn the turbine by hand until the oil goes down...said to do that a few times. You'll want the return line hooked up or something under the car to catch oil.

Well hopefully it will be getting back together within the next week or so. I'll run some oil in the line when I get the return line hooked up. Rather be safe than sorry. Thanks again everyone!
