Price for CX-9 Touring, FWD with Tech package

:
Toyota Corolla LE 2006
Hello,

I am looking into buying a CX-9 Touring, FWD with Tech package this weekend and wanted to see what is the price others paid recently for this(or similar) combination. If it matters, I will be purchasing it in SF bay area.

Cheers!

.
You can check the TrueCar.com.
I found the prices it had were very close to what I got for the Mazda3 last year.
A couple hundreds less is always possible.

fitzmall.com is also a good place to take a look at to give you an idea

Thanks for the replies and pointers! A friend of mine got CX-9 Touring AWD with Tech package for $30,000 *including* taxes in June 2012. It seems to be a great price and the quotes I am getting are no where close to it, hence I wanted to get a feel for what folks have paid recently.

It would be nice to have a sticky post like in the CX-3 forum where folks update the purchase price. I feel it will definitely help new buyers.

TrueCar is showing a price of $30,257 in your market, so I'd try for $29,500 or so.

I got a quote for $29,145 - I feel this is a good deal but my wife wants to wait for a while and see if prices drop more as the release date of 2015 model gets closer. Argh, the confusion!

Do dealers usually give more than 25% off of MSRP even when a new model is coming out soon?

My thoughts are the price will go down some more as the new ones roll in but most probably not a bunch. The only problem is if you are picky on color the inventory typically becomes less. I wonder if the 2015 is a complete redesign or is that coming in 2016.

We have a color preference, so we might pull the trigger in a week or so and buy it. Maybe try and get a slightly better deal on July 4th weekend...

I searched if complete redesign is for 2015 or 2016 - a couple of news articles seemed to suggest that it might be happening for 2016. Couldn't find anything conclusive though.

The 2015 CX-9 will carryover from the 2014 model with no significant changes. A new CX-9 is expected for the 2016 model year, but they're still working on developing an engine that will be adequate for it. So 2016 is most likely the earliest we can expect to see it! (FYI- Mazda renewed the trademark on the "CX-7" name and some speculate that the CX-9 replacement may be called CX-7???)

As to your earlier mention that your friend got a great deal in June 2012, I got my 2012 CX-9 GT for a STEAL in November 2012. The 2013 CX-9 received significant updates including new front and rear styling on the outside and (to a lesser degree) revisions to the interior design and color schemes. When your friend bought his 2012, dealers already knew about the 2013 changes and also knew when their first shipment of the new models would be hitting their lot! By the time I bought my 2012, there were new 2013 models scattered all over the lot and one parked in the showroom. So they were desperate to clear out the "old design" previous year models....

I got a 2012 CX-9 Grand Touring FWD w/ Moonroof/Bose/Sirius Package & Power Liftgate for $29,706 plus 6% sales tax! That was $8,679 off the $38,385 sticker price (or 22.7% off). While I got a FANTASTIC DEAL, I didn't get a color combination that I really wanted. My first pick would have been Liquid Silver w/ Black Leather and second was Dolphin Gray w/ Sand or Black Leather as second/third choices. I ended up with Crystal White Pearl with Sand Leather, which normally wouldn't be on my wish list at all. But Black, Stormy (Dark) Blue and Copper Red were the only other choices at the time and I don't do dark colored cars and didn't care for the Copper Red....so by default I got the Crystal White Pearl. That's the price I paid for waiting so late in the year to buy!

The quote for $29,145 is actually a great price IF it's legit. It's very likely that the dealer will have a $499-$599 "Dealer Fee" but if that's the only cost added to the $29,145 other than tag/title/registration and sales tax, it's still a very good deal. The Touring FWD w/ Tech Pkg stickers for $36,310, so $29,145 represents a 20% discount off MSRP. Even if you wait for the 2015 models to show up, you aren't likely to get a significantly better deal.

Even if waiting saved another $500, you'd end up spending a lot of time and effort tracking down the color and feature (Tech Pkg) that you want! Trust me, you don't want to be in that position. When I was shopping and found a 2012 CX-9 GT in Silver or Dolphin Gray, it was either a 'base' GT FWD (no Moonroof or Bose stereo) OR it was AWD with Moonroof/Bose and NAV. My advice is to go for it now!

BTW, what color have you chosen?

Thanks for the detailed reply!

I called the dealer and specifically asked about the additional fees on top of $29,145. He said it will be just 8.75% sales tax, $80 documentation fee and DMV registration. Most dealers said they cannot beat that price, a couple others are working to get me a better deal.

Our color preferences are:
1. Pearl White
2. Liquid Silver
3. Meteor Gray

But we really want Pearl White since all other models only offer black leather seats and we don't want black cause we feel it will get really hot in summer. For Touring, only Pearl white come with sand color seats. We are getting a bigger car since we are expecting twins in a couple of months and hence are being more watchful about how hot the car can get :)

Actually, the Meteor Gray can have Sand or Black Leather, but the Liquid Silver is Black only. One of the reasons I'm not a huge fan of the Crystal White Pearl on my 2012 model is because of the MASSIVE Black Plastic Grille below the front bumper. Even with the chrome trim dividing the 'smiley face' grille in half, it still looks cheap against the White background. The redesigned front-end on the 2013-2014 don't have the same problem. They look much nicer.

The Sand interior is also quite a bit different on the 2014 vs. my 2012. My seats are two-tone with primarily beige leather and chocolate brown accents between the side bolsters and seat bottom/back on the first two rows of seats. The 2014 Sand interior has solid beige leather seats. A word of advice- if you plan to install any baby or child booster seats, put a neutral colored towel underneath them to protect the leather!

My 2012 has a two tone dashboard (darker brown up top and beige on the lower part) and the door panels use the same dark/light color scheme. It looks nice, but the light-colored plastic panels on the sides of the console are easily scuffed and scratched by shoes, etc. On the 2014, the entire dashboard and the panels on the sides of the center console are all Black (and should be less prone to scratches). The door panels appear to be Black and Sand two-tone also.

One thing that hasn't changed is that all CX-9s, whether Black or Sand interior, have Black carpeting and that's a good thing, IMO. I highly recommend investing in WeatherTech FloorLiners at least for the 2nd/3rd row (1-piece). They are custom made to fit perfectly around the seat tracks AND they have a slight lip that helps contain any spills instead of allowing them to run off onto the carpet!

My other vehicle is a 2014 Mazda6 with Black Leather and I can confirm that it is MUCH hotter than Sand after sitting in the 90+ degree Georgia sun! I have a climate-controlled garage at home (65-85-degrees year-round) and my office has covered parking. But I work outside of the office 80% of the time and when I'm driving my Mazda6, I always look for a shady spot to park wherever I go....and a bird usually poops on it! A ventilated (cooled) driver's seat would really help....hint, hint, Mazda! (wink)

Thanks for the tips and advice! What is a good place to buy the WeatherTech FloorLiners from? If there are threads where this has been previously discussed, it will be great if you can point me to them. I am still trying to figure out how to use the search functionality on this forum so that it actually finds what I am looking for :)

I feel ventilated front seats should be on all models that have heated seats. If you can heat the seat, cooling it should not be too hard or different!

We ended up buying CX-9 Grand Touring, FWD, pearl white with sand interior and roof rails for $29,254 + taxes. Pearl white color is $200 extra and the car already had roof rails installed, so it was $300 extra for that.

In addition, I bought the 5yr/75K miles maintenance plan for $1480 including taxes. I am still debating if buying the service plan is a good idea, but it can be cancelled anytime so I am not too worried about it.
