Looking at a 2013 CX-9 GT with tech package with remote engine start installed, all weather mats and cargo tray. MSRP $40,209. I Was offered 36,092 or 37,592 w/0% financing.

To me it does not seem like a bad deal, but I think they are leaving a little if you take into account the President's day dealer cash that expires tomorrow. I would say invoice on your car is about $37,700. Currently there is $1,500 dealer cash + $500 president's day cash. That would bring you to $35,700. This would be a deal at invoice. Mazda only has 1% holdback and I doubt the dealer would want to give that on a 2013 yet. That would pull off about another $400 and put you at $35,300 which is where I think you would bottom out on that car at this time. I am not aware of other hidden incentives, but they always do exist.

Now the 0%, is that just for 36 months? If so, there is only a difference I can tell of 750 between the two and it look like they are adding the entire $1500 dealer cash back on to it. You can get 1.49% for 60 mos through some credit unions (PenFed) which I think would be solid financing and keeping the 1,500 cash.

Always check out the pricing on fitzmall.com to get some realistic pricing. Notice how much they are selling for and you should be able to get that. Don't know if you have the Mazda loyalty of $500 also.

Good Luck with your purchase! We are enjoying our 2012 GT AWD!

So what do you think a good counter offer for me would be? I was told the offer I was given includes the $500 loyalty cash and $500 President's day cash. And yes, the 0% is just for 36 months, which is fine for us, and I'm not sure a CU around here would get me much under 2.5% which kind of makes it even between the extra $1500 or 0% special financing.

Let's take another look at the numbers since you are planning on doing the 0%. Invoice on your car should be around $37,700-750(dealer cash with 0% financing)-500(owner loyalty)-500(president's day) = $35,950. Your price of $37,592 is showing that you are paying about $1600 above invoice which is not making since to me. You should easily be able to get invoice on the CX-9 minus incentives. Do you have a trade that is throwing a wrench into the numbers? Does the $37,592 include any fees such as tax, title, licensing fees, doc fees, processing fees? If you do not have a trade and the $37,592 is a straight price without tax, title, license, and other fees then the price is high no matter which way they slice it. The price they are giving you is even above Edmunds True Market Value which is always high. I highly recommend you go to fitzmall.com search the new inventory and find one with the same MSRP of yours and it will show you the price. Just add $750 to it since you would be doing 0% for 36 months. That will give you the idea of what you should be paying. I bet it is even a little below the price of $35,950 that I am showing.

Hope it works out for you. You will definitely like the CX-9. Let me know what happens and curious if there is anything else such as negative equity in a trade that is causing the number mishap.

For the heck of it I went on to fitzmall's site and found a CX-9 grand touring AWD with MSRP of $39,855. They are selling it for $34,498. You would need to add 750 back to that which yields $35,248. Their price is invoice - $750 (cash back with 0%) - $500 (loyalty) - $500 (president's day) - holdback (1% of MSRP) on that deal to the buyer. So the price I had above to get fitzmall's exact price on your vehicle would be right at $35,550 with 0% for 36 months.

There is no trade-ins, but the cost does include all weather mats, cargo tray and remote engine start (including the installation cost). Without these add-on items the offer is $35,500 without special finance offer or $37,000 w/Special 0% financing. The additional $592 is for the add-on items mentioned earlier. But you're saying even if I take the 0% offer I should be able to get it down more, right? Thanks for your time and info, it's greatly appreciated.

I would remind them that the difference in rebate between the special financing and not including special financing is $750. I think if you take off the $750 from the $37,000 which would put you at $36,250 would be reasonable since they have to install the remote start since it did not come from the factory.

Is the 40,209 MSRP including the addon-items or are the addon-items in addition to the MSRP? I do understand the install cost would be in addition, but wanted to know if the actual items were part of the MSRP you quoted. What was the actual MSRP on the vehicle?

$40,209 is the MSRP with the add-on items. $39,605 is the MSRP w/out the add-ons.

IgoZoom,

The deal at Montrose Mazda is Cleveland went through without a hitch !

It took maybe 30 minutes from the minute we walked in till we left. There was no change to the trade-in value at all.

Learned that our 2012 Touring was an early production model so it does not have the lines in the backup camera like the later production model at Ricart. My wife will have to learn to live without the backup warning signal - that thing saved us many times!

In the end, we saved an additional $2000 in total over the 'best' Ricart deal. Kudos to Steve and the Montrose team !

Really need to get the group's thoughts on the extended protection though. I will post it in the other section.

I personally think $36,250 is a more than generous offer with 0% for 36 months. This is right at invoice and giving them about $250 to do the install of the remote start which I think is more than adequate. I just think $37,592 is high which is running about $1,300 over invoice. It just depends on how much you like the vehicle and dealer and whether or not you want to shop the price. You could always tell them you will do the deal for $36,250 tomorrow with 0% for 36 months or you will shop around - just depends on the relationship you have with this dealer. If you have purchased from them before, they should do $36,250 for a previous customer. You will be able to beat the $37,592 even after the $500 president's day cash is gone.

shbiv,
Thanks for the advice and information. I'll let you know what happens tomorrow, we do really like the vehicle and planned on getting it at some point, but don't need it right now, but we thought with the presidents cash now might be a good time to bite the bullet. By the way, where do you find all the information on what incentives are currently being offered at the dealers? Also how do you calculate invoice cost?

All the incentives I mentioned are available on Edmunds.com. Invoice pricing can be found on many sites - edmunds, nada, etc. I often use fitzmall.com also which shows the invoice price of the cars they sell (certain manufacturers) - there prices are usually very competitive and if you get their price you did well. If you beat their price you did extremely well :) Truecar.com is also pretty good.

Also, you can check pricing on ebay.com (sometimes new vehicles are listed), cars.com, autotrader.com, etc. A good place to also look is where you are looking on the owner's forums. Edmunds also has a forum called "prices paid" forum in which people post their prices paid.

I think edmunds.com is the easiest to get the invoice pricing - sometimes they don't always list all of the incentives when you price it through their pricing system.

Also, any reputable dealer who really wants to earn your business will print out the invoice sheet for you directly from Mazda. From there you should deduct the $500 president cash + $500 owner loyalty + $750 cash (with 0% 36 months). Then add back the cost of the accessories you are asking them to install + $250 for installation and you should be good to go. If they really want to hit a quota they will often give you the 1% holdback from Mazda also.

I signed for the 2013 CX-9 yesterday. $36,500 w/special financing is where I ended up on the Grand Touring with tech package, the remote start installed plus all weather mats and trunk tray. Waiting for the remote start to be installed and will pick up later this week. Thanks for the info shbiv.

Glad you were able to work them down on the price. I think you will be extremely happy with the CX-9. I know we are.

Congrats. When your driver mat wears through in a few years, get Weathertech front mats.

What wears out so quickly on the OEM mats? Is it the top or the cleats on the bottom? Is the rubber just too soft? My wife has the OEM all weather mats in her Mazda3, and they seem to be holding up fine. Perhaps we just don't use them as hard as others? I'm sure we'll love the CX-9. We were originally looking at the CX-5 but decided to sacrifice the fuel economy for the convenience of more cargo and passenger room, and we can haul a small trailer with the CX-9. I'm going to be installing a draw-tite hitch right away.

Just bought a brand new 2012 AWD Touring with pearl white paint, power liftgate, No Highs/No lows must be Bose, cargo net and wheel locks for $30,300 OTD. We pay our sales tax when we title the vehicle.
