Plugged Tire + Nail = AutoX Worthy?

I just got a nail in my rear tire(1500miles) and I'm supposed to autoX Sunday. The nail is in one of the tread blocks so will plugging it be alright for racing? I can't find RE040's on Tirerack or Tires.com so if it needs replacing I'm screwed. I'd just rather not pay for the pluging and a new tire if I can aviod it...

A plugged tire .. NO .. but if you take the tire to a shop they patch it -- that should be fine for AutoX

I've AutoXed on a (professionally)patched tire without problems... plugs are prob a bad idea though. Tire rack does have the RE040s however - http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Bridgestone&tireModel=Potenza+RE040
and probably could get one to you by this weekend (the last order I placed with them arrived the next day) if you'd rather go that route

I know people who have autocrossed on a plugged tire. The only real issue with a plug is that it can loosen up and start to leak again. Pretty easy to catch in a situation where you check your tire pressure every 5 minutes...

I've had a patch on (the inside of) my tire for 15000 miles and 2 autocrosses with no problem. I'm too scared to use it for open track though.

got it patched and ordered a new RE040 to replace it so I can just keep the patched one as a back up. 176 is a rip off for the potenza... i almost bought wheels and tires...
