2001 mazda protege mp3
so ive looked on the forum before but i actually need help about a year ago the master cylinder started leaking brake fluid on the inside of the car never had time to actually fix it. it got bad so bad a few weeks ago that i lost all pedal preassure and the clutch started catching about a half inch off the floor i got the new one and installed it ima big guy and with the small places took about 6 hours. bled the clutch and it was worse it was catching late got the bleeder tool from a friend and bled it that way the first bit of brake fluid was dirty and it had alot of air in it. its catching like its supposed to now but it doesnt have the firmness like it used to any idea whats going on? i have no clue as to what it would be other than preassure plate or throw out bearing

if it is the preassure plate or throw out bearing any ideas on a clutch kit that wont make it much stiffer than its supposed to be i tried calling mazda to ask them they told me that it would be the same as a reg protege and i didnt know what i was talking about and the dealership told me they didnt have time for me

You could still have air in the line. If you let the fluid reservoir run too low during the bleeding process it could have pulled more air into the line in which case you would need to re-bleed the system. Air in the line will make the pedal feel spongy.

no i made sure that it didnt get low i even bled it the old fashion way and it was just a stream no air in it what so ever

I bled mine just recently after thinking there was a problem with my slave cylinder and swapping in another one I had. Even with the reservoir halfway between low and full it still allowed air into the system.

The reservoir must be FULL! In my case anyway??

well either way what is a good clutch kit ive been wanting to do it and itl be the first aftermarket parts on this car any ideas? as i said i dont want it much stiffer than stock and not rediculously priced im leaning towards an act stage 2

spec stage 2...329 shipped i got mine for at horsepower freaks. great clutch and cheaper than act.

sweet i was lookin at a zoom kevalar for 380 from a parts store. but it doesnt make it alot stiffer or anything does it i mean the big gain id like to get is to be able to chirp 3rd its the only stick ive had that wont do it

for some people it is others like me its not im not really ever hard on it in the past year its had like maybe 3 big burn outs and 2 races its just nice to be able to do when you want to in my own opinion

just for an update i bled it again no air it is starting to regain its stiffness though thank god can anybody tell me what exactly makes the clutch stiffer? im pretty sure its just the preassure plate but not positive thanks for all the help

Pressure plate springs and no air in the line :) and using a ss clutchline gives much more responive pedal feel.

thats it?? wow im disapointed in mazda everything i read said it was a heavy duty clutch and something else said it was in the pedal ill be going with the ss lines i read a thread on here about some thats coverd in plastic and you can change the colors or something ima try and find some yellow ones to match the color just for the hell of it

Usually when the torque rating goes up the pressure plate obviously gets stiffer and the material used on the clutch disk changes. I had a Clutchmasters Stage IIr and was rated for around 250tq or so and it had near stock pedal feel. My Exedy Stage 1 felt stock too. Now I have an Exedy Stage 2 which is a 3 puck but and it is stiff and grabs instantly which requires rev-matched downshifts or it chatters. Kind of alot of work to get used to and not needed for most proteges.

the response time of the engine once you get used to the clutch is much better though in my opinion. i don't like stock clutches. makes for a rougher ride though when your not on your a game

well its gona be stock for awhile atleast untill i get everything on it thats f'd up fixed basicly everything suspension wise i just know the clutch in it is stiffer than a reg one which i like i mean its the stock clutch with 127,000 miles on it id say its due for one
