Cool thanks for the info. Did you use these with an aftermarket amp?

Yes.

I have the components powered with an amp. 50 watts rms would be plenty.

I just got a cheap one off of ebay.

I installed these in my 2008.5 3 a couple of months ago. I have them powered with a Pioneer 75x4 amp.

They are great speakers, but I had to attenuate the tweeters more than the maximum -3db on the crossover. Mine are at about -5db or -6db (using a simple $2 L-Pad), otherwise they were too overpowering for the mid-woofers.

I have them mounted in the stock locations, no problems, but I had to cut out some plastic inside the factory tweeter areas for the pioneers to fit because they are much larger than the stock tweets.

Email or reply if more questions.

I paid $93 for an open box set on Amazon, BTW.

Part of the problem is probably that the tweeters are in the sail panel, and the woofers are in the lower part of the door.

I have my set (the a series though, but they seem to be the same size... probably the same tweeter even) set at 0. my bass must even things out.

And for my protege, the tweets were way larger than stock, so i bought blank sail panels and put the tweets in the provided pod, and screwed that to the panel.

like so

D tweets are 1/4 inch bigger than A tweets. I think its 7/8" vs 1 1/8" diameter.

They also have different crossovers, which would affect things.

They are great speakers. I just found the tweeter to mid-woofer balance off. It was easily fixed.

YMMV depending on install.

i was going by the pictures. they look to be the same exact design. maybe they are bigger. i would have to check on the pioneer website or something.
