Pioneer components

why do you want pioneer speakers? IMO pioneer speakers aren't very good, pioneer is better at makeing decks, i would mb quarts, they sound great!!! and you can get them at a good price from

www.onlinecarstereo.com

Pioneer

I have a friend that works at a local Best Buy who will give me a "hook up". He can get all four speakers for under $100. They dont have much to choose from at the one he works at. Its basically either pioneer or sony.. i do not like the quality of the sony's, they are all looks.. I listened to the pioneer speakers on the display and they sounded pretty good. Plus I can get the 4 year warranty on the pioneers and if i have a problem I can get a new pair for free. The specs on these speakers are pretty good in my opinion. I just wanted other peoples input before I put them in. Like how they sound in the car.

Dude, if you can get all four for under $100, PLUS a warranty? Why the hell not? THat's a pretty deep discount.

In fact, if those all have factory fitment (no aftermarket covers), I'd love a set for under $100, and I'd pay shipping! What's the retail price?

The retail for 2 pairs totalled around 250-350.. im not exactly sure. Plus the under 100 is a rough estimate.. I will find out today if he has as low of a discount on these as he did on the ones for his car. I'm hoping he does cuz its a good price.

I will find out the price later tonight or tomarrow.. Do they sound good enough to spend money on? I'm not exactly the richest 17 year old so I want to get something good if i spend even only 100 bucks on it.

I haven't listened too much to any of the newest pioneer speakers lately, but in the past I have always been suprised and impressed by what I've heard. I was considering these for a while, and a buddy had a 5 1/4 component set. They sounded tight. Especially for the price.

I can't imagine that the quality of pioneer speakers has diminished since then.

I'd say by em, unless you'd reather add over 200 mor $$$ and get some MB Quartz, Boston Accounstics, JL's, etc....

I wouldn't take Cerwin Vegas, Rockford, Sony, or any of those over pioneers. They seems to consistenly make all around good products :D

= fp

Here are the prices he gave me. And I think I'll go for the first choice. One small problem. These are the speaker sizes that they told me were in my car when they did a search on their computer in the store. I searched this site for posts about speaker sizes and I got tons of different sizes. I have a 2002 (not the 2002.5) Protege5. The sizes of speakers that they told me in the store are 6" and 6" x 9".

Front with 4-ways in back: 108.33

Front with 3-ways in back: 94.94

The back speakers in the Portege 5 should be in the doors, which I don't think are 6x9's...They should be the same size if not slightly larger than the front speakers.

I thought the fronts were 5 1/4" and the back doors could hold 6"...The Protege MP3 has rear shelf speakers which are 6x9. There shouldn't be any difference in door speakers between the 2002 and 2002.5 mid-cycle refresh.

Don't quote me on this as I am working overtime this morning, and I have noticed that as I stay up longer and longer, my brain seems to be hit or miss on answers and spelling.

Look for someone that has installed without having to cut anything.

I remember seeing 6 in back and 5x7 in front with 3/4 inch tweeters up by the rearview mirrors....

also check out protegeclub.com- good car audio section....

heh im glad i dont have to worry about all that s*** the kind people at mazda did all the worring for me and put a nice kenwood system in my car for me :)

100 bux!!!!!!! well in that case DEFINATLY get the pioneers!! Sony just sucks nuts.. i hate sony.. i will never buy sony again..

If you are going to go with the Pioneers, get speaker s that are a direct fit for your car.

FRONT:
TS-A6897

REAR:
TS-A1767

The speaker sizes are Front: 5x7/6x8" and rear: 6.5/6.75"

yeah, I found out that those were the wrong size... have you heard anything about the REV series from pioneer? i kinda like that they are yellow and it would match the car... (sound quality is the main thing.. but them looking good in the car wont hurt...)

I don't recommend Pioneer components. There are so many other brands that outperform them. You were thinking of getting those 2 sets of speakers (front and rears), but IMHO, that's a waste of money. Getting a good set of components such as the Boston Acoustic 6.5 sereis will eliminate the need for the rears. The image produced by the Bostons will be even greater than the image produced by having pioneer components in the front and rear. Yes, they are a little expensive, but are definitely worth it once you here it. I recommend a strong SQ amp such as Alpine, Nakamichi or nice JL.
