no i understand the legal issue. i know the drive isn't supposed to watch video while he's moving, but what the hell is the point? assuming you follow the law, what the hell is the point of having a dvd video player that only works when you are parked? i mean it's worthless unless you buy extra screens and hook them up to it so that people seated in the rear could watch, but it should be an option.

i am waiting for my dad to get home from shopping to apply for that card. since i'm new to the credit world, i can't get the card. hopefully my dad can. haha. i have a road trip in about 2 weeks that i would love this thing for. any ideas yet on how to bypass the in motion locks it has?

on the D2 you had to ground the parking brake wire, along with an open pin under neath it. Not sure if it'll be the same on the D3. I'm sure it'll be possible. Pioneer won't make it totally impossible because consumers will look to another manufacturer if that was the case. They just have to do it so that it would be legal to sell and so that they wouldn't be liable.

The most recent units (Z1, N3) have a slider switch under a void sticker. I hear you can use a hair dryer to heat up the sticker to try to get it off without the void part coming off. However, just in case I bought a void sticker that matches pioneer units on ebay for $10....small enough price that I won't mind if its a different system, or i end up not using it.

Pretty sure the multi kit from metra is what you need.... I think it is a 99-7505. The D3 install manual it says to hook the power side of your parking brake up... Does that mean, just hook it to a constant 12V. I'm confused. Or maybe it grounds out when the brake is engaged. Tricky bastards, never know if they're switchin it up on their new models. How much did you pay???

I just went for the crutchfield order with $20 off so $970 shipped. I am sure it can be easily found at a lower price, but I wanted to use my financing card, so meh. It should be here on thursday, i'll let people know if I can figure out how to bypass, i'll have it installed this weekend, then i'll post pics and impressions.

Just in time too....it sold out today. Mine's here tomorrow. Then its work to find out how to bypass the lock out. Check out Avic411.com to get good advice on the avic units.

Yeah its not true. I don't think they updated sizing, as it doesn't fit any vehicles you try to input. But yeah, its the same depth as my current unit...should fit fine.

Mine shipped the next day. When I ordered it was also still the preorder period and the next day i got the ship notification. You might have ordered yours right when they ran out. Hopefully it ships soon tho.

yeah, i talked to customer service earlier today. they told me i actually got the last one. they said it's probably just because i was new to the sony thing. i realllllly hope it ships tomorrow. i have a 9 hour road trip in a week that i want it in my car for. hopefully people figure out the hack for it by then.

The way I figure it, is that it would be easy to just add an extra screen or 2 (like in the visors or something, and then you should just be able to watch what you want up front. A visor screen isnt that expensive. I want mainly for the navigation, Im torn though between this and the eclipse unit.
