Pentium 4 Vs Pentium D

Dual core is new so it may take a while as games and other app's make good use of it. What you ordered will be fine. 3.2GHz will last a while. You'll get a noticeable speed boost just getting your RAM up to 2GBs or more (especially with newest games), and if necessary, faster video card as time goes on. But nothing wrong with the X600. My older 9600 Pro will works fine for online Battlefield 2 gaming, just not the highest settings. As you feel it getting slow, just add RAM first, then look at video update. Good price for a solid foundation machine.

I'm at a crossroads at the moment myself, but I've worked out the cost of a newly built gaming PC and decided to just boost my current Athlon 2800+ with more memory and one final AGP video card (6800 GS). Should last 2 more years for me and still be able to handle Vista before I hand it down to my 8 yr old.

yeah looks like a great pc, like scifiman said , the x600 will run great with modern games, i have a AMD 3000+ , gig of ram and the ati 9600 and i can play battle field all day with no lag.. that system will fill all of your needs..

Looks good but, ehm, you planning to upgrade that to XP Pro? IIRC, HT is completely useless on Home because Home only supports one cpu (would've been the same with the dual core, too).

And before anyone whines, yes, HT makes a nice difference in multitasking (not as good as dual core, but anyway). I know this from experience.

Edit: yes, I remembered correctly: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/howtobuy/choosing2.mspx
