PC 7424 Kit Adice

After a few hours of research I've decided to purchase a PC7424. I'm a complete novice when it comes to working with a machine in car detailing and from everything I read this thing is pretty much idiot proof but can still be functional as I progress in my knowledge and skill. I'm going to be getting a new car soon so I figure I'll practice on the protege before I let her go so it's a great excuse to break down and buy a kit. The problem now is which one....I'm pretty set on buying from autogeek (seem to have the best prices) but can anyone take a quick look at these and see which kit they think is the best bang for the buck? Keep in mind I have nothing, so I'm building from the ground up here. Thanks!

The Starter Kit is perfect. Then just buy the products you need for the job at hand. Hard to say without knowing the condition of your paint.

condition of current paint isn't too bad, just minor swirling (black car). I'm more doing it not to restore the current car but to practice technique for the new car.

I just bought a PC kit myself, here is the one I bought http://www.detailersdomain.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=359

What kind of budget do you have to work with?

The Menzerna Polishes that come with my kit is some of the best out there, Its a go to combo for a lot of detailers because it works and works well. Another really good combo is Meguiar's 105/205, It takes the PC correction to a hole new level.

I would recommend checking out autopia.org and just read read read! tones of good information on the website. Also youtube the PC, there our how to videos that will give you a really good idea what your getting yourself into.

thanks for the advice. I've been diving into autopia, there's just so much!

As far as budget I'm in the 200-250 range as an ideal since I don't "need" any of this now, I mainly want to get practice on the machine.

Coastal Tool still has one of the best prices on the PC7424. I'd start there. Then use the rest of your budget to get proper pads and towels, and the polishes you want.

Coastal Tool was cheaper for the unit itself, but the starter kit came out to a better deal for products and autogeek is in FL so any shipping is next day shipping, lol. Thnaks for the help guys, I'll be posting before/afters in the photo section after I get it done.

I like autogeek a lot, and I see the starter is on sale for 199. Pretty good deal. But since you said you are a novice at this let me toss just another scenario at you.

Get the PC from Coastal for 119, has the weight, wrench and 5" plate (good for 5.5 and 6.5 pads).
The 5.5 pads are better with a PC and cheaper. Get 3 of each yellow, orange, white for 60
One grey for 8, or whatever color you want for waxing etc...red, blue, grey
You can get the same 2 Cobra towels on sale now for 16, But I'd ditch those for a better towel, the Supreme 530, buy one get one free right now for 8.
Ditch the pad conditioner and cleaner. Not worth the money. Get a gallon of micro-restore that will work for your towels and your pads and it will last you for a very long time for jut your garage.

You're now at 195 with more pads, better towels, before adding the micro restore or whatever cleaner you like. You can get the micro restore in a gallon for 35 or 32oz for 15.

Kits are fine and all, but aren't always the best deal. They are designed for new shoppers like yourself. Usually they are the best "deal" (price) for those selected items in one package, but not always the best deal. I just always advise shopping it before you choose. But I'm a penny pincher lol.

Either way good luck with it. Spend $95 before the 24th and you'll get free shipping and some of their wax for free. Type in "clubmember" and you'll get another 10% off your order ;)

Ya, I went against buying the kit, but I think I messed up in buying 6" pads for the PC...I heard they don't work very well. And almost all of my pads are 6"...I may return them.

There are some people that think 6.5" foam pads won't work with the PC, and then there are some that think the PC won't correct the toughest jobs anyway. I prove them wrong all the time. Also I have a few different types of pads other than foam that are 6.5" that correct very quickly.
However when it comes to foam I do like to use 5.5" foam with the PC for maneuverability and I feel like they work a little quicker. But 6.5" are good for hoods and deck lids. Heck, I've even used 7.5" on a PC for that for final polishing. Somes times its technique and sometimes its the equipment.

Want to re-iterate that kits aren't bad. I feel like I may have sounded too harsh about them. They really can be a good deal, especially if you want those specific products. Just suggesting doing research first. Anyway, just wanted to put that out there.

The advice is much apreciated! My friend had a %25 off coupon for any autogeek purchase over $100 so that pretty much sealed the deal for me with the starter kit, haha. Ended up being $164for the whole kit after tax. Ordered it yesterday early afternoon and got here this morning so shipping was ridiculously fast and they even give out a free water bottle with purchase which I thought was a nice touch. Anyway, the advice wasn't falling on deaf ears as you're pretty much made my purchase list for after I go through the kit items. Thanks a lot for the info Thrillride!

The G110 has a little more power, but they are very similar machines. I'd wait. PC is coming out with a new and better machine.

just as an update.....I finally got a chance to use the kit this past weekend and holy cow it is amazing. I got much better results than I could have ever gotten by doing it by hand, it was easy to use, and even after three times around (swirl remover, polish, wax) I was still ready for more (unlike when I do it by hand and lose use of my arm muscles for the day, haha). All and all I'd highly recomend this product to anyone who wants a great product without a huge financial investment. You know it worked well when the fiance comes out and is like "Holy crap, you're definitely doing my car next weekend."

Auto Geek will match/beat all other companies prices. Over 90% of my items have come from them.

Here is something that you can buy to learn how to use a PC or Cyclo. It's information provided by Mike Phillips on Auto Geek.
