2002 Mazda Protege LX
Hey guys I'm thinking of painting my currently gold 2002 mazda protege LX to either black or dark red but I'm having trouble deciding which. I think both would look nice but I'm not a huge car guy. I also have to figure in that I live in sunny florida so fading is a problem, plus the entire interior is tan so I don't know if that has an effect on my situation or not.

Also, I have no idea where to get this done at. I don't want to do it myself, but I need someplace cheap to get it done. I heard maaco has pretty good prices but I'm going to ask you guys.

Any suggestions just let me know :D

MAACO blows... don't do it... Not that i've went there but there prices are cheap for a reason... I paid $1800 for my paint job. 4 years now and still looks clean no rust, swirls. the only thing is some rock chips. If your worried about fading get a good job done... a decent paint job is gonna cost you atleast $1000... Being your interior is tan makes a big differenc IMO if your gonna go any kind of dark color... I would stick with a light color like silver... 22v... but if you 5% tint the inside color doesn't really matter. I don't think any dark color is gonna go well with tan. But who cares new paint = new car look. MAACO is cheap for a reason.

BTW welcome to the forums :)

Thanks! Yeah I pretty much threw out the idea of black, I'm leaning now towards red or silver.

i have the same gold protege and i was thinking of painting it also.

I think Navy Blue with a tan interior looks sweet. Lots of Acura's (TL's, TSX, EL's) have that combo and it looks sharp.

don't go to macco! i went there back in the late 80's and the paint job lasted only a year.. it was a charcoal silver and it faded to dark grey. no shine and looked like primer. i should have taken it back, but was lazy. oh, this wasn't the cheap one either, the middle grade job. only go here if you're selling the car like, tomorrow.
