Painted Interior

i'll start researching... just in case... and then maybe we could get something setup... good way for the board to make a little extra cash... hopefully production wont cost too much to where you (stou) and the board arent makin money.. cuz you also dont wanna charge too much for the members... well.. lets see where we can go w/ this...

Sorry for the delayed response. I have been having technical difficutlies with my car. The paint I used was the red anodized paint by Dupli-Color. It has a silver flake base coat and a dark red top coat. In the sunlight you can see the metal flake. Looks cool as hell. Thanks for the compliments!

That was exactly what I tought. Is this paint look resistant enough or you have to put clear over it?

so wait you painted it first silver metallic, then with the dark red anodized paint?

Hey guys..about the T-Shirt things....we have a pool business here in NJ..and we get T-Shirts done every year....I could prally talk to mey dad and see if we cou'ld have our guy make them...
All we neeed is a design and Enry's thoughts..

Stou: I sprayed clear on the peices that would be touched regularly (center counsel, peices on the door, etc.)

Equinox: The paint is a two step process. The silver flake (metalic) base coat and the red anodized top coat. They also have blue, yellow, and I think one more color but I can't think of it right now.

I think they are pulling the dash pieces out then painting them. Doing it in the car would be very difficult. Check your local auto parts store or Home depot for the type of paint mentioned above. It has some decent directions. The Proteges you are seeing that you think has a P5 front clip are MP3s. They were a limited edition model produced for the 2001 model year. Check the MP3 forum for more information or the protege faq here

yah... exhibit A: Myself - drive a limited edition 01 protege mp3..

although there are people that did the front bumper/side skirt conversion to their proteges.. [CruZer] or whatever his name is did it... he did the whole body kit from the mp3 on his protege... only thing is though... what year pro you got?? the 02 and below had those funny lookin crackhead corner lights that were all squared off, while the mp3, p5, and 03 pro have the meaner cleaner looking angled headlights...

you can order the kit or just the bumper from the mazda dealership... as for buying the stuff painted.. yah.. you COULD... if you wanted to pay me or someone else (maybe a shop by you) to paint it for you... but if you go to a shop that does interiors... your gonna get *****!@!! i'd say they would probably charge about 200+ for what i've done to my interior...

:D  YEAH! Umm, I do have the 02 protege, will the front bumper still work on it or is there going to be a gap orsomething?? Also is there a way I can get someone/ company to make a boady kit or edit the mp3 one so itdoes fit my 02 protege?? Also, I love the white paint in your protege.

Please respond.

Thanks!!

in ref to first post. how did you get the center piece around the deck and temp controls off. or did you paint it while it was on?

it involves taking off the radio, getting behind the piece and unclipping a few things, and detaching some cables that lead to teh A/C, it's kinda a pain.

I painted mine in a spray booth with automotive paint. I work at a paint shop so the cost was nil. It is A3E (classic red) and it matches my exterior perfectly (looks lighter in the pics becuase of the flash)

are you using any primer or anything before painting so it doesn't peel?

when painting an unpainted surface, priming the surface is recommended, yes

I'm wanting to paint the grills on my car. What type of primer should I look for?
