Overheating at Track

I can't help directly, because I only have the stock temp gage and no other data (really should do something about that soon). But your reasoning makes sense. If the water doesn't have enough time in the radiator for effective heat transfer, it will raise the temp of the engine.
 
Yea, the gutted t-stat helped a bit, but I think other issues have been sorted and its time to go back to a non-modified one.

And definitely get some real data! The OEM water gauge is TERRIBLE
 
The problem is Flexalite discontinued the shroud I have. I purchased that last one my distributor had. There is a new part number for the shroud since the fan model was changed. I don't have the old part number or any info handy... its been almost a year now.

Best bet it measure the radiator and match up a FAL shroud that's very similar in size, just a tad bit taller. Just a little bit of trimming will make it fit perfectly.
