Finally got a response from the dealership:
"Car has been in and out of the shop at this point. The turbo went bad on it, the worst-case-scenario situation. Apparently, the bearing in the turbo burned out, ate a whole bunch of oil, then disintegrated, sending pieces of sharp metal into the intake and exhaust. The whole engine is gone.
A remanufactured engine isn't going to do it, because it's apparently not available for the turbo engine. There are more than a few different components on the turbo engine due to the greater need for strength from forced induction. They'll have to replace the whole short block, then machine the head. You'll wind up with a completely brand new engine, turbo, and the lot."
Estimated cost of repairs: ~$8-10K s***
only good news I have....essentially new mazdaspeed for about 8-10K. Lets just hope the body will hold up for a bit...
