(pissed) My Mazda 3 is one week old and rock cracked my windshield. $600 for a replacement .... this sucks!!! I wonder how long it will be until aftermarket windshields will be available ??? I have a high deductable , so I have to pay it out of my pocket ... probably better in the long run.

That SUX! You shoud seriously consider lowering your deductable to $100 or less for comprehensive. I did that after my previous car was broken into and I had a $500 deductable for $600 worth of damage :(

The monthly increase in insurance rate for lowering my comprehensive deductable was about 5 dollars. Well worth it IMO.

You might want to ask what the 'cash price' is for that windshield. A lot of auto glass prices are jacked way up because insurance pays. If you tell them insurance is not covering the cost for you, they might have a lower price. That's what happened on my Jeep a few years back. It's worth a shot anyway...

For most insurance companies, the windshield glass deductible is separate from your comprehensive deductible, and usually is cheaper (usually around $250)

Be glad you arn't Canadian. The rain sensor comes with the windshield and bumps up the price.
SOrry for the threadjack, but I've gotta ask. What is the rain sensor for?

To sense rain!

Probably for the automatic self-adjusting windshield wipers
(evil) Funny guy. lol.

Seriously, I was wondering if it was like a feature only offered on CAD models (not likely) or if it was due to some kind of law like their day time running lamps.

Like Jersey said, it's for the automatic rain-sensing wipers.

And yes, it's a CAN-only option but not required by law.

IC, IC. They need to make rain sensors connected to your lights for the states (IL for example) where you are required to turn your lights on in the rain. Hell, better yet make it mandatory for every production car. Out here people never turn their lights on in the rain (and they aren't required to) and after having lived in IL I realize how much safer it makes things when people have to.

Yeah it's definitely safer. NJ has the wipers on / lights on law as well. It's pretty heavily enforced.

hey, if you have Farmers like me you can buy the optional $50 glass buy back, then there is a place here in VEgas that gives Farmers 50% off so my new windshield only cost me $25... YOU CAN ALL HATE ME NOW!!! Oh and they fuc*** up the first install and had to put in another. That along with buying me a new guage pod because the first idiot cut it all to hell taking out the old windshield.

Ok I just got my windshiled replaced on the 5 and the list price was $575 for the glass but since I paid cash I got it installed for $223.
