Ongoing cosmetic DIY and more....

It does, but I get better mpg, burn less oil, and it isn't nearly as expensive. The rx8 for its price should be making a ton more. Just saying, considering it is a top of the line mazda.

well I added it up and I have about $1500 in mods...if I hadn't spent any of that I could be pretty close to a reasonable trade in with the loan. now that I have, I'm not taking it off til I'm a lot closer to selling (assuming this black RX8 for 5K doesn't pan out, which I'm assuming it doesn't). if it did, it'd be the 2nd car I bought from the twin cities. LOL

oh santos... i LOL @ you. I can pick up a quality 8 for the same price you paid for your 3. and 8 > 3!!

the awful gas mileage, plus awful hp kills those cars. I still love them, not enough to buy one though.
240 HP from 1.3 liters. Not sure what you expect, but that pretty good in my book. It's by far the highest HP NA rotary in the RX line.

It burns oil by design. Not sure what you are getting at as far a HP/Price comparison. Oh, and I fixed your statement for you.

Just voicing my opinion. I have a poster of an RX-8 on my wall, I love the car, just not enough to buy one. Sorry if I upset you.

Sorry if I upset you.

Not upset at all. Its a car, not worth getting upset over. From my point of view you are misunderstanding the issues involved, I'm sure the situation is just the oposite from your point of view.

Sorry if I upset you.

The RX8 is an aquired taste. It offers up some things superbly (handling, sporty dynamic) but there are consiquences (fuel consumption, maintenance, ect.). It's only worth buying if you are commited to the task of owning and maintaining a rotary. Treat it well and it will put a big, s*** eating grin on your face.

Next up will be a seafoam treatment.

Hrm. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you not supposed to seafoam these cars? For the same reason you're not supposed to switch over to synthetic oil after a certain point... I'm a total noob when it comes to rotaries though.

Seafoam is snake oil regardless- just saying. The benefits are minimal and exaggerated because it makes a big smokey show... protip: it smokes so much because you've just dumped water, alcohol and oil into your vaccum system.

Wrong, and wrong. You stand corrected.

On this point you are absolutely right.

Lots of people swear by it. One in particular that got my attention recently...(off to search for a link)

Edit: Found the link. Seafoam for a newbee thread from RX8club
If more people followed this procedure their motors would retain compression for a lot, lot, lot longer. We've successfully disconnected the oil metering pump internals to trick engine management to think its still working. Naturally we all know that the need for this product to remove carbon comes from the oil metering pump. Adding 2 cycle to your fuel accomplishes the same thing but 2 cycle is designed to burn in a combustion event.

The process we've followed on older motors that come with our race donor cars is to pour the SeaFoam directly into all the spark plug holes after turning the motor over a few times here and there to insure the seafoam gets to all the seal grooves. We wait a few hours and add a little more to let it soak into all the sealing grooves. Then we wait overnight.

Tonedef is right on the money---you fire this dude up (and it stumbles and stumbles) and you wouldn't believe the amount of what looks bright white smoke. It will do this for 5 or 10 minutes (it did for us).

Take compression readings before and after and you'll see a difference.
This guy knows his stuff. Chick here details.

The compression is temporarily raising on those engines because the seafoam is lining the walls.. if it works as it's supposed to, the minute it heats up, it's going to burn up and you'll be back to where you started.. It's unsetting to me, especially in a rotary, because of the damage loose carbon can do to apex seals. Just seems risky for a reward that's marginal, at best. Just my .02.

A quick update on the Koni + Progress Tech combo. They drop more than the advertised 1.2" front 0.8" rear.

I can't find my camera but I did take some measurements out on the driveway (pretty level). All measurements were taken from the ground through the center of the rim and to the bottom of the wheel well. Not scientific I know.

Front Left: 26.5 inches (about 1 in gap between wheel and wheel well)
Front Right: 26.5 inches

Rear Left: 26 inches (no gap at all)
Rear Right: 26 inches

I think stock is really close to 28 inches all around, so that is 1.5 inches in the front and 2 inches in the rear. No issues with scraping the bottom of the car yet, but it turned out lower than I expected.

I must say that the ride is great. Virtually no body roll, not bouncing off the bump stops. Feels very solid. Can't wait to get some decent weather so I can take a nice long drive.

Edit: I thnk that the front will settle some more over the next few days.
