Aight so I'm in Herndon now, in an appt by my self... no more piggybacking off of mommys food. I'm a bit poor... but I wanna eat right / healthly.

I need ya'lls cheap food tips... I'm currently eating protein bars, bananas, and I dont have any damn water :( (I don't drink tap)

Suggs pls.

carbs - oatmeal, sweet potatos, apples
protein - eggs, lean meats, fat free cheese, protein shakes (powder in bulk)
water from wal mart is 53 cents a gallon

now that you're in your own place we expect weekly pics of neked freaks

I live off poptarts. Get a George Forman Grill. Then you can make hotdogs and hamburgers in a snap.

Brown rice, very versatile, if you make big batches, you can use it for a couple of days or freeze it in meals.

Boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs- you can use them in anything, they freeze well and aren't too expensive.

Do you like to cook? If so, you could make some different sauces and then use them rather than buy. I sometimes like to add onions and garlic to canned spaghetti sauce. Spaghetti noodles can be used in Italian recipes or angle hair works well w/ stirfrys.

Baby carrots are great to snack on and you can cook them too.

Get a Britta or Pr water filter for the faucet. I can't stand tap-water, but it tastes MUCH better with the filter. They're only like $15. Replacement filters aren't due to be changed until around 4 months, so it's not expensive. Keep a pitcher of filtered water in the fridge and you've got instant cold drinking water.

werd... the Brita is a wonderful thing. The cheapest food you can buy is still fruits and vegetables... I had to become a vegetarian for 3 months before I came out here, and my grocery bills were like halved without buying meat and soda. other than that, take a dietary supplement for sure, even if you think you are eating right. I recommend a multivitamin with protein supplement, and then anything that you feel you are deficient in with your diet.

if you're not boojie foo foo about food and are open-minded, Tofu is probably the best bang for the buck as far as healthy/cheap food goes.

Three Different Textures
1. Silken - almost pudding-like consistency ... great with Canned fruits and cottage cheese

2. Firm - Great for quick stir-fried meals if you go with the Chicken/Different sauces suggestion up above

3. Extra Firm - For longer cooking times, deep frying or stews

usually $0.99 for a cube and if you're solo, you would only probably use half a cube per meal.

High Protein, low/no fat, no cholesterol, low/no sodium, low/no sugar

Use less meat in your dishes so you spread out your food even more.

Fresh Fruits and Veggies are always a good option, but you'll have to make constant trips to the store to ensure that your supply is fresh

If you wanna go cheap, go to Costco get those Microwave teriyake chicken. Then, get a big bag of rice from your nearest Chinese market (short grain rice). Just baked the chicken and cook the rice, then add some extra teriyake sauce if you like. The bag of teriyake and the rice wll last you for a while..This is the best method according to my housemate.

Get some ravioli from Costco and they have sauce already made in a jar. Cook the sauce and ravioli, slap them together and you got yourself a meal. I usually add more stuff to the sauce such as mushroom, "lean" ground shirloin, garlic, etc..add whatever you like. :)

so you're out on your own.... i've been out on my own for almost 2 years, with a short stint at home for a few months (which was nice).

- cereal/toast in the morning for some carbs and energy. i use soya milk (vanilla flavour) cuz i hate the taste of regular milk.
- bagged salad, cheap and you don't even have to wash. just open it up and pour on your fav dressing. i usually get a 2lbs bag. 1lb too little, 3lb too much.
- boneless/skinless chicken, fry em, bake em, microwave em, grill em... tastes like whatever marinate or sauce you put on it.
- rice ... good if you have a small rice cooker. ready in under 20 mins.
- pasta, takes more time to make, but you can make double and eat it the next day. mix some veggie oil in it after you drain it, so it doesn't stick as easily. mix with whatever pasta sauce you want
- instant noodles.... stay away from that garbage. it's gross.
- tacos! you can buy groud beef, brown it, mix in taco mix and stuff it in your taco shell. use your bagged salad for greens, buy some salsa and cheese, done.
- frozen burgers, easy to fry up or grill... i sometimes mix it into my pasta for some meat. or use ground beef and fry that up.
- campbell's soup... easy, done in under 10 mins.

Most has already been said. I'll repeat some things because they were good suggestions.

-Get a Foreman grill

-buy chicken and meat in bulk - meats will be the most expensive things you buy

-Buy a huge bag of rice (I hope you like rice) - it last soooo long

-Get a rice cooker - make rice on the bottom, use the top tray(get one with one) for steaming vegetables at the same time

-Get a jar of peanut butter

-Buy tons of low calorie jello (5 calories/serving) - great snack that is filling, and even better when you throw in some fruit.

and...
-the less you have the more creative you'll become ;)

Oh yeah, get lots of tupperware. You can find huge sets out there for cheap.

Good suggestion! Foreman grill is a must! i've easily used it over 200 times. works great, easy clean up. you can cook whatever you want on there.

and it's very true, when you don't have much to eat, and you're super hungry, you'll get very very creative! lol

Oh, i suggest getting a big bottle of multivitamins. i use centrum. it'll make up for whatever you're not getting enough of.

yeah i got a foreman grill but left it at home (woodbridge). and yes, i like rice... (i'm asian after all). I'm gunna go shopping tonight. thx for the idea guys :D

Chicken casadias! I cook better then I spell so if that isn't right cook at your own risk. LOL

Get you some seasoned chicken meat cut up to the size you like put in frying pan. Use no stick spray so you don't use grease. After about 8 mins in pan through in some velveta and a can of the GREEN rotel diced tomatoes. In another pan toast you tortias and spread the chicken on. Put your lettuce and tomatoes, onions and I like guacamole. UMMM good! Even better with Coronas!

Best thing to get a cook book. This is a must have if you do not want to get extremely bored of what you are eating. Find one that has a variety of different style foods to make. Costco used to have a very nice one, Better Homes and Garden has a very good one also. These are very basic meals with a varied variety so you can try out a lot of different dishes. You'll find that making food at home really does not cost much, especially when compaired to eating out or going out drinking with friends. Make your lunches at home and bring them to work if you can. Generally tastes at least as good as fast food and costs a lot less. Also if you really are on a tight budget don't drink soda, it costs a ton for what it is and really isn't that good for you. Water, milk, fruit juices... all will be better for you.
