My Sound System(is this correct)

Deck
(Goes to amp/speakers front and back)
(Then to my trunk amp/subs)
Bass:
-0 Flat
-60freq.(What is the optimal frequency? This is the lowest)
Treble:
-0 Flat

Trunk Amp:
Gain: 3/4's
Bass Boost: 3/4's
LP Filter: 80hertz

Shouldn't this setup give me no distortion subwoofer wise?

Alright...But when I lower my gain too it gives no real power to my subs. When the LP filter is lowered to 80-90....guess I'll just have to test it out some more. It just feals like my subs arn't being worked at all when I lower the settings to what you guys are suggesting.

What subwoofer do you have. Nevermind , I see it. You might not have enough power for 2 of them. Or you have them hooked up incorrect. Try adjusting the bass boost past 0, lol.

I have two
ALPINE TYPE E SWE-1042
and my amp is a
Alpine MRP-M350

They are installed correctly, I'm just trying to get rid of the high-end subwoofer distortion that some songs give.

Turn off all that crap on the deck. That is the Alpine BASS ENGINE. The frequency you are playing with on the deck is the center frequency for the bass EQ. This may or may not be causing the distortion. Any settings you make on the deck to increase bass will be sent to the speakers also and since they do not have a crossover they will distort and sound like ass.

Once you have all the settings off on the deck go back and put the LP filter knob at 80-90Hz like I suggested in the previous thread. Put the gain at about 85-90%. You should not be getting any high-end distortion because the sub shouldn't be playing anything above 80Hz.

Once you get to that point, you can play with the BASS EQ knob on the amplifer to increase the bass to your liking.

I know that's the Bass engine...

How do you turn off the bass on the deck. There is no ON/OFF switch, I told you there is -7 to +15 Bass and I have it At 0(flat) and you can change the frequency from 60 to 80 to 100 to 120. That's it....because unless you mean strip some cords out of the back...I don't get it.

You never answered what I should use on the deck for frequency. I just want to know.

You think I don't know the difference between Bass and Sub-Woofer settings on my own deck. I don't know everything but seriously.

0 Is Off for speakers no matter what frequency your on so I don't know what you were yelling about Chuyler, if I missed something feal free to tell me. My speakers never sounded like crap and that isn't the issue here. But I think when I change my settings to 80-90hertz LP and fiddle with the bass boost I'll be fine. The reason I got confused is because you told me to leave the bass boost off for the amp so when nothing was coming out of the subs I thought to myself 'well if I shouldn't turn up the bass boost then the only other way is to put the LP up until there is bass coming out'. My Bad.

Well if you are getting distortion...the first thing to do is to turn off all bass boost and work backwards.

From your post above I got the impression that you thought the 60-80-100-120 setting on your head unit was a crossover filter setting. It is not, it corresponds to the center frequency of the bass engine. If you turn that on, you'll be adding bass to the speakers in the car along with the subwoofer (not a good combination). I guess "off" means "0" so leave it at that. Its different on every head unit.

I don't have the deck in front of me and I can't hear what you are listening to so cut me some slack.

I read through the manual to help you and my conclusion is that your head does not have a crossover and the frequency setting is irrelevant when you have the bass engine set to 0. Leave it at 0 and use the Bass EQ setting on the amplifier to increase the bass.

Are you still getting distortion?

Ok were completely on the same page now. I thought that the 60-120 setting was the bass cutoff for the speakers, because the setting was in the bass engine section and mostly effected the speaker volume which was only partially correct. But I get it now.

I'll repost in about two hours when I get home and can apply these settings. Thanks for the help.
