Oil Overfill allowances ??

I have a 2010 Mazda-3 2.5L 4cyl hatchback GT. I just had the oil changed and brought my own to the tech . The owners manual says 5.3 quarts is the fill with an oil+filter change.
I sat and watched the tech do the change , he's a Master Tech and has handled Mazda's for quite a while . I asked what amount he was going to put in ? he replied 5.5 Q . I said thats not to much ? No he said these 2010's take 5-1/2 quarts w/filter . I went with it knwing the owners manual says 5.3 quarts . Possibly he had some knowledge I didn't ?
its been a week and no smoke no problems ---but I still can't get over the fact that the OM says differently that what he put in. I chalked it up to residual oil left in the bottles --he would pour the oil quickly like a bartender down the funnel and snap another would go in. After 5 he started it up ,ran it good, then let it settle checking before the last 1/2 Qt.
I finally realized that if you take the emply quarts these guys use and consolidate the residual oil you end up with almost exactly 1/3 -1/4 of a quart per 5 quarts because they dont sit and wait for the last drop to drip . Its my only explaination and I surmize that even if it was over 1/3 of a quart which its not as I saw the last one and it has 4.5/10ths poured and not 5/10ths --take the 1.5/10ths and subtract the residual and its pretty much 5.3 quarts --anybody see things differently . It is at the top but Mazda must account for leway on the over and under --anybody know specifically ???? thanks

this much difference one way or another won't hurt anything... now go get some sleep lol.

Yeah, what he said. That little bit won't hurt a thing. Now if he added a full quart extra, then I'd be a little concerned.

Thanks . hey man sometimes being type "a" is a bummer but others it saves big problems --any way the good news is 2011 Mazda-3s ALL have a NEW FLAT dipstick thats easily readable !!! Its not a cable that pulls oil down the sides wrecking the read , its accurate and easy --I took it from a 2011 Mazda3 --same length and it was easily readable...I mean NO doubt --so I am going to sleep--out
