I'm guessing that doing that, will void the warranty.

Just having receipts saying you bought oil and filters proves nothing if Mazda says so. Who's to say it went in that car, or any car? I buy oil and filters when I find 'em on sale. Just today I ordered ten K&N oil filters from Amazon.com, four more for the Speed and six for my daughter's Camry.
Not necessarily -- it's a Mazda part, not aftermarket. Two pieces in the box -- the filter "platform" with connections for the oil cooler, pressure sending unit, and the filter itself. Then there's a metal "gasket" which replaces the existing metal "gasket" (don't know why, but I used the new one like a good boy). This allows us to use different filters (K&N HP-1002 is the "stock" size, but a HP-2009 fits as well and has more capacity, 'cause it's from a B3000 pickup). No leaks and it'll be WAY easier to change the oil ('cause of the quick drain valve) and the filter ('cause it's now just one piece). I like it bunches.
When I have my oil changed, I stand right in front of the car, watching every move.mazda can't really dispute that, or else they would basically be saying "you must change your oil using our dealers or it will void your warranty," which would be a monopoly. you can't get forced to change your oil at a mazda dealer. if you want to talk about proof, who's to say that an independant shop just charged you for oil and a filter and didn't actually change it (jiffy lubes in particular). but guess what, you still have a receipt for it. that's why receipts for oil and filters should suffice in the event that you need to show some kind of proof of oil changes.
