Oil and filter ??????

Ok I have read alot today on oil and oil filters. This is what I got from it.

Basically if you run synthetic oil you are good for a long long time... about 25 000 miles before any break down occures. The problem lies in the filter. Our filters only do on average a 40-20 micron filter for the particles. The damaging waste is between 6-20 microns. That is the reason they ask us to do so many oil changes.

Well I have found two sites that offer 1 micron by pass filters.

http://www.oilguard.com/index.php

http://www.bestsyntheticoil.com/dealers/amsoil/by-pass.shtml

Now I am debating on getting this to reduce my oil changes and so forth. What do you guys think or has anyone ever thought of this or had experience with this.

let me know what your thoughts are....

junk

i would just change oil every 7000-8000 miles and be done with it. Just use regular oil. If using like mobil one pick up one of there synt. filters.

P.S WORD UP

BUY AMERICAN :D

How about K&N oil filters? how are they?

They still don't reach past the 20 micron range cause if it would it would create too much back pressure to the pump and possibly have early failure on your oil pump. this is a by pass system.. it will clean your oil but not affect your pump what so ever.... You jsut might need to add a little more oil in your car to compensate that's about it....

Here is how I look at it....I use a good name brand standard oil that meets the spec for the car...and an OEM oil filter...and change it every 3000 miles...

why? because from experience....30 years of driving and doing my own oil changes this way....I know that this is proven to ME...it works....and I have never ever had an engine failure....and have had MANY high mileage cars....and performance modified ones as well.

I personally do not have the money to be doing R&D on my own....not to mention....it would be many years at the rate that I put miles on before I would really know if what I did or spent my money on did any good. When products like this hit the market....I am very skeptical....would a bypass loop system clean up the oil system? you bet it could....I am just not so assured that it would truely prolong the life of my engine over ME changing my oil every 3000 miles and using OEM filters....

I think, even though they say 25,000 miles, you're starting to get into a frequency issue... I'll probably put 30,000 miles on my car this year, and that's an aweful lot considering I'll blow my 3 year/30,000 in only 1 year.

Well, but my point is... I personally wouldn't feel comfortable changing my oil less than once every 3months. A normal person would probably say do it at least 2x a year. For me, that would be every 15,000 miles, in which case any normal paper filter would work.

Of course, this is a lot easier to adhere to if you can do it yourself in your garage.

Last time I used the Mobil 1 filter only because that's all I could get. It's not really rated much higher the the Purolater Pure One filter, which is about 1/3 the cost.

Everything, or course is subject to personal preference... this topic is miles long and completely subjective

I believe its not what kind of oil you use but the frequency of oil changes. Every 3000 miles for me at the dealership. Not to mention OEM oil filters.

Oil

Ok the oil might be able to hold out for the huge 25-to 30,000 miles but this special 6 and below micron filter would have to be change so often that it wouldn't be worth it.

You only change the filter twice a year...

I just changed my oil. I used Mobil1 oil and filter. I figure why not use the best (or close to it) even though it costs a little more money. I'm not trying to break any records by seeing how long I can go between oil changes, I've just heard good things about this oil, so why not? I'll probably change it again after 5 or 6 thousand miles, but if I miss my mark a little it won't matter. I don't understand why people drop thousands of dollars into modifying an engine, and then skimp on the oil to save $10 or $20. To each his own, but oil is a pretty important part of a car.

I could not have said it better my self.....frequent oil changes with HIGH quality oil and filters is REALLY cheap insurance to make your car live longer.

im using the OEM filters and using Valvoline Synth. I change my oil about every 5000-7000. depends on the time of year.

I change my oil eveyr 5000 km's which is 3125 miles.... i guess that's why I am a little tired of changing it so often.... LOL

Oil change????????

Hey Guy!
I thing you need to keep up the record about oil and filter change to keep up with Factory warranty ( Mazda have 3 year 50,000 miles warranty is not 3 year 36,000 miles ..) and if your have extended warranty your will need record of your oil and filter change.I all way bring to Dealer when they have some special oil and filter change :$18.95 to $24.95. then they have your record on file. If some hapend to your engine they will take care of that.
nomar I change oil around 2500 to 3500 mile.About 4 to 5 time a year. ( $25 x 5 = $ 125 per year) compare to $ 3,500 to $ 4,500 for engine.How your thing?????????/
