Well fellas, it looks alot like the Nashville series in that the Wings seem to be playing down to their opponent. I am still saying Wings in 6 or 7. (thumb)
Damnit !!! I am stuck in a hotel is South Boston, VA...........................Dreeza said:woohoo i am going to game 5!!!
6 games but..........................................WRONG TEAM !!! :wtf: I was hoping they would stick it out with Stevie going down but.......not so much. Now we gotta wait til Sept. again. Guess it's time to root on the Lightning !!kevducridr said:I thought they were going to give in yet again................some tense minutes following the 18 second cave in, but now we are on way to victory. Wings in 6 games. (thumb)
DAMN KEV !!! I am tired from all of the reading !! Lots of good points though. I think one word really does sum up alot of things.......OLD !! It is time for some younger blood in the locker room. I don't think that the coach can take all of the heat as well. Lewis has been with the team for a long time and has been around the game for a long time. Bottom line, they just didn't produce. They looked really outworked out there sometimes.kevducridr said:Well today is officially a day of mourning in Detroit. Unfortunately the Wings were bested by Calgary 4-2 in the second round. My observations from this season and playoffs:
1. Dave Lewis deserves credit for getting this team to win the Presidents Trophy despite countless man hours of injuries throughout the season to his star players. He also deserves credit/blame for the lack of offense in the playoffs with his stars in the line-up. I think he deserves another crack at this team. Hopefully the Owners/NHL/Players Assoc. can get a new collective bargaining agreement in place so that not all of the 2004-2005 season is lost to allow that to happen.
2. Its time for the Wings as a team to get younger, the last two years have made that painfully obvious in the playoffs. They were flat out out hustled and out worked in the second round this year, they seem to really have problems with speed and young teams. I don't see many of our veterans returning next year, i.e. Shanahan, Hull, Chelios, and some others. Especially if there is a long shutdown of the season the chances for return are smaller.
3. Keep Curtis Joseph in Detroit. This guy deserves credit for putting up with all the BS when the team brought the "Dominator" back from retirement. He played strong hockey late in the season and in the playoffs, despite all of what he went through. Consumate professional.
4. Steve Yzerman, career in doubt. There is probably a 50/50 chance that the Captain will not be back for next season. This injury was unfortunate, as that is not the way I would have liked to see him go out if he does choose to retire. Personally I think he needs to be promoted to assistant coach when he is done playing. If that is next year then so be it, the guy has had one hell of a career and is a true hockey mind. I think he is still capable of playing and he seemed to get stronger as the season went on, either way he goes I will continue to support this guy.
5. I am continuing to be stupified by the lack of consistant play in the playoffs the last couple of years. The result of which is I think they need more younger players in the lineup as the desire and drive are just not there anymore for a significant portion of the veteran players. Many of these guys have won cups and other hockey awards and they just seem to coast at times. Our organization has alot of young talent and maybe its time to give them a shot. You still have enough talent and experience in the lineup to be a solid team. Look at how we did throughout this season, with them in the lineup. Its time to start building for the future again.
6. Defense, Yuri Fischer and Derian Hatcher were not good enough. Both have had serious knee injuries and it showed. It remains to be seen if either can return to previous form. If not then, they need to go away. Bottom line. Losing Chelios was a serious blow to the defense. The guy is a warrior and was missed the last two games. I thought Schneider played great throughout the season and especially in the playoffs. I think he outplayed even Lidstrom. Woolly was solid and should have been in the lineup earlier in the playoffs to get him into his groove. They all looked a step behind and were consistantly beaten to loose pucks and when battling in the corners. I think Calgary just wore them down with very physical play.
Well that is all for now, just wanted to put my .02 out there. Like I said before, hopefully we have hockey next season.
Hopefully, Hull will return home (Shanny, too?) : http://hadleyonsports.com/getReport_affiliate.php?sport=hadley&type=newsletter&name=F0422125629&size=595kevducridr said:I don't see many of our veterans returning next year, i.e. Shanahan, Hull....

Hey, no hatin' here. I applauded them when they swept us, and I would've done the same this year had they won. They've been a very good team for a number of years now, and I respect them as a franchise. It's just that, with the Wings and Avs out of the way, the path for our failure in the finals (if they get past Tampa) is that much clearer. I'm not really one to talk sh*t or hate on a team because of my teams past failures. C'mon, how can I talk anything when Philly, as a sports town in general, largely sucks! lolkevducridr said:Another bitter Philly fan from 96-97???? Don't be a hater. (rofl)
