Official: ATx -> MTx conversion

meh.. nothing a dremel and a torch can't fix :)

in 16hours, this begins.
TurfBurn, I have your number saved in my cell... If there's something we run into that neither Brian nor I can figure out, we'll give you a buzz - but I'm not too sure if it'll get that bad (boom06)
I think i've got 100% of the parts, now

tranny out.
wiring swapped - Brian's soldering it in now
Flywheel/clutch mounted to the car.

If all goes well, I'm hoping to have it all pieced together tomorrow morning/early afternoon.... then any sort of calibration/tuning might ruin the day (boom06)

Although, I must admit... Brian's doing most of the work, he actually knows what he's doing, so it's going faster to just let him do most of the disassembly/assembly. (spin)

how much time did that take you guys to get that far? what do you have left to do? i'm really serious about doing this, i've already got a wrecked mp3 for parts and i'm just waiting on money for labor

We are more than half way there. I am not a licenced mechanic but I know how it all works from "Hands On" over the years. The MP5T went back together in a weekend and Paul's will be up and running by 14:00 Sunday...

3 hours on Friday
about 9 hours on Saturday
Probably another 5-6 hours on Sunday

It's going so fast cuz Brian knows the car so well, so he's just ripping s*** out and labelling it in his head... also, 30% of the brackets aren't going back into the car... just easier that way... useless brackets.

The wiring's done, now... so that was the longest part.. probably like 3-4 hours to compare the 2 wiring harnesses and figure out the differences between the ATx components and the MTx components... it's just time consuming.. and Brian saw that coming when he saw the wiring harness.

As far as I know, first thing tomorrow morning we start installing the tranny - although we might have to take off the exhaust to get the shift linkage into the car.... on a side note - i now have an MSP steering wheel, and i'm just waiting for the tranny to put in all my MSP pedals :)

regular ATx...
either way, the entire harness needs to be replaced... mine was cut at the portion that goes under the center console... and all 4 injectors were cut off... but we stripped down almost the entire harness to bare wires to see the condition of the wires... much time, but well worth the verification, just to ensure no future problems.

Pics to follow. It's just that we are doing it as we speak and it's a bit of a waste of resources to have someone type an article when we could have a second set of hands...

The Wiring harness took more time than is required because I'm a bit of a freak when it comes to wiring. I wanted to strip the entire part where the harness runs behind the coils over the fuel rail as the injector plugs were cut from there and I would sooner waste 1 Hour wrapping it up with tape than rebuilding a motor just because one injector isn't firing or spend a day looking for a "Ghost in The Machine" What a Cocksucker of a job that would be

so whats the news on this conversion??
my engine died and i was looking at my options...i have an automatic...want a manual...which is the cheaper alternative? looks like it will be sticking w/buying an AT engine....

they are the same engines in each car.. the wireing and tranny system is the differance..

It's all together and would be running fine now, but it seems that the Diff on the used tranny is and was pooched. I'm happy with the job, like I said, the wiring and everything is fine, the car runs great, the linkage and clutch is perfect, Just a blown diff that will be fixed and had nothing to do with the swap, just bad luck...

do you??
BTW.. is Qidan a scammer? I got a good deal, but not really on a broken tranny (boom06)
PM me what you want for the diff... I'm gonna have the problem analysed by mazda before I go around buying more parts, I've got some money, but not THAT much. I'm gonna see how quickly I can get to Montreal.. as soon as i know what the problem is... it's gotta get fixed..
