Yeah, but they're not way off the charts with their pricing. They fit right into the market.
What market is that? Half the people I know of can't afford the monthly for a 30k+ car
170 HP makes the Mazda 3 most powerful and probably the fastest in its class.

Is it? How? I miss the kicker or something.
You are concerned with speed. Mazda builds the fastest car in the class, but that's not good enough for you? I admit I'm a little disappointed that there isn't 180 or 190 HP, but at 170 HP it makes the 3 the fastest and best handling car in its class. Somehow that angers you? Mazda is probably not wanting to raise the bar too high all at once, more power may come down the line somewhere. I also heard there will be gas mileage increases in the new model as well. Maybe their mileage objectives couldn't be met with more power.
I'll wait until more info is available before passing judgement.

No doubt. I'll wait instead of assuming. Mazda just give me 185-190 hp. That is all I ask.

exactly exactly. that is where I am trying to go with this. really who the hell would want to drive a new 6 with that engine?

Like my exceptional point is sanblaster, who does not even want that 170 hp in the Mazda3 (which is by far lighter than the 6)
Oh and I'm just curious, how do we go by a cars "class" ?
Is it just model/design/weight?
Cause I mean if you go by classes like "sedan" "compact" "sports car", or "full size" "mid-size" etc.
Si if we're just going by the size/design/model of the car.........Wouldn't the mazda3 be in the same class as an STI? (which makes more power)
BTW whomever said it's the most powerful in it's class is incorrect. The Subaru Impreza (not the WRX) has a 2.5L 170 hp engine and starts at $17.5k for the 5 door hatchback model....... that's about the same as the Mazda3, not less powerful.
I'm pretty sure the Mazda3 will also be in the same price range.... so unless Mazda decides to bump the output on the Mazda3, it's not really going to be the most powerful is it?
Trust me I know........ My GF has an '05 model V6 hatch. I like it, it has pretty good power for being only, what? 220hp? or was it 212hp? I had the opportunity (or should I say misfortune?) to drive an '06 2.3L rental when I took my speed6 in for the clutch TSB. That thing felt so sluggish and horrible. I actually got WORSE gas mileage in it because I found myself trying to stomp down the gas pedal to get the car moving from a standstill.
This is a good point. I guess I would have to wait to hear about a review on the 2.3 with a stick....... and it is true, not everyone is an enthusiast, they just want a practical car that still looks nice and gets them from point A to point B
And I will admit, I do like that one Camry model that looks like it has a body kit from the factory, where the spoiler is part of the trunk mold..... I saw one with some 18 wheels and it looked nice.
