Octane rating from different gas stations

MS3
I've been a big fan of Chevron and always get their premium (91 Oct??) for my MS3. I live in NE GA and with the current gas crunch, I had to fill at a QT which I was surprised to find had 93 Oct. premium!

So which is better? A 91 Oct. with techron or a 93 Oct. from a comparatively small name gas station?

Also which gas stations do you guys normally fill at and what are the premium octane numbers?

I have yet to see 91 in Baton Rouge (though I'm new here). I only see 93 at BP, Exxon, Shell, RaceTrac, and Pilot. Gas is way cheap here though, a lot cheaper than NY.

I have always used 93, I think the only place I got stuck using 91 was up in the mountains (Cumbarland Area for those people that know Maryland) but I never drove it hard for that gas. I do use octane booster around once a month, that actually makes a difference in my Mazdaspeed3.

The car calls for 91 octane. Why would you be afraid of driving hard on that? I know it says premium on the gas tank, but if you refer to the manual it specifies 91 or higher octane.

The only stations that sell 91 here where I live are the shady older stations and the Hess.

The only fuel that's been in my car is shell 93 octane w/ the "gunk reducing" stuff in it.

91 is not available here, or anywhere else I've looked in Florida. Only 87, 89 and 93. I put 93 in the 'Speed and I mix 87 and 93 for the Ram and the 300.

So in the areas where you can't get 91, what is the price difference between a gallon of 89 and 93?
For instance, here in cali 89 is 10c per gallon more than 87, and 91 is 13c per gallon more than 89.

No sir. The Hess station right by my house on CR-210 has 91 octane gasoline. I'll take a picture of it after my gator tail is done cooking.

chevron, 76, mobil, shell and a few others, my first choice is normally 76.
i refuse to buy gas at arco
i buy 91 cause they don't have 93 in cali

I run 93 octane from Pride, it's the cheapest lol. The dealership filled its first tank with 87, ******* douchebags, but have run 93 ever since. They told me its okay to run cheap gas because the computer compensates for it and retards the timing, you just don't get all your horses. Is that true, or are they just cheap pricks? I love my car and only high test for her and an oil change every 2500 miles.

assholes did that to me. we went out on a test drive with the car on E before he filled it up I told him to use 93 he said ok then when I saw him pumping it I noticed the price was for the 87. I started bitching, and the ****** lied, and said the card would only let him get 87. what a lying b**** I shouldn't have even bought the car from that ******* pock marked faggot

In most of FL, it's 87/89/93, with usually a 10-15 cent difference between grades, depending on the retailer. When 87 was selling for $3.25 a gallon, it was not unusual to see 30 cents total difference between 87 & 93. Now that prices are falling again, most stations are reverting to 10 cents between grades.

I am not loyal to any one brand of gas. Gas stations here are too hit & miss. I prefer Shell or Chevron if I can find them, but I always buy 93 octane, wherever I get it. I also like to add a bottle of Techron to my gas about once every 15-20k miles to help clean out the fuel system. The only brands I will not buy are Citgo and off-brands, like RaceTrack, etc. because you can't be sure what sort of detergent additives they are or aren't using.

The problem here in FL is that we are stuck with 10% Ethanol blend. Yes, Ethanol should produce slightly more horsepower (we're talking single digits, don't get excited), but I object to the governor's ethanol mandate for several reasons.

First, it should be my farking choice to buy ethanol. But Governor Charlie decided that by 2010, all gasoline sold in FL MUST be 10% ethanol. I didn't drink the ethanol kool-aid, and I don't want it forced down my throat.

Second, most vehicles are still not flex fuel vehicles. Which means that their fuel systems are made of the wrong materials for ethanol. Sure, the government tells you that 10% ethanol is fine for your car. But if 85% ethanol will rot/melt my fuel system from the inside out, I don't want ANY ethanol in my car.

And finally, ethanol produces poorer mileage. Gas prices here in FL didn't drop when 90% of the retailers decided to comply with Governor Charlie's mandate ahead of schedule, so what good was ethanol doing me? NONE! In fact, I was LOSING money, because that gallon of gas was no longer taking me as far as it used to.

Veering off on another tangent.. I have heard from friends in 3 other states, mostly in the Midwest, that regular is below $2.00 there, as low as $1.65. Regular 87 octane in Tampa is about $2.30 right now, and I am paying $2.54 for premium.

I only use 94 octane from Chevron, 92 from Chevron when I go down to Washington (don't know any gas stations in WA that have higher).
We usually have 87/89/91, with most gas stations having a 94 pump as well.
Gas has finally come down a bit here, but we still pay the most in Canada, if not North America. Filled up tonight at $1.11/L for 94. Highest I paid was $1.65/L about 2-3 months ago or so. For a full tank, that's a $28 difference........
