I’ve gotten 40’ish mpg on some long drives as well(6-10hr), same oil brand/type/oci. I made the call since the beginning to do frequent oci with affordable oil & filter given the driving the Mazda 3 does.

Next factor would be location weather, I haven’t checked the parameters during the summer yet but now with colder temps in NJ the engine oil stays below 200.

My suggestion is to move up to 5w30 since you do more HW miles and have higher miles, you’ll see some benefit of 30 vs 20 weight oil.

Fluid management is key especially when you accumulate miles fast.

I plan to switch next summer to 5w30 Synthetic as the car will be over 100k miles.

The weather has cooled down quite a bit in the last few weeks. I notice that the coolant temp stays the same while the ATF temp seems lower.
I understand your reasoning behind the short OCI. I may have used SupertTech's dino oil or two stroke oil in the past, can't remember which. I don't mind changing the oil/filter every 3 to 4 months, but every two months would be a bit much.
I accumulated 15+ jugs of dirty oil from all my cars in the last few years. I use the oil to stain the fence, 2x4s, patio furniture, and wood puzzles. In my area, each facility can only take 5 jugs per day, so I went to O'Reilly, then AutoZone, and finally the local recycling center. For the first two, they gave the almost empty jugs back to me. I had to drain them more fully at home before sending the jugs to the recycling center. It was a lot of work.
