November 2008 N America Mazda5 Sales Data

I just remember the first time I saw one, my first thought was, that must be the new MPV. Wasnt in the market for anything like that, was driving a 3 at the time and single. Now, even after owning a CX7 we love this 5. The captain chairs are solid and the car is actually fun to drive, gets good mileage and the wife LOVES it!

I feel the same about my sisters 5, I love her car! We have a hard time picking which car to drive sometimes but her 'van' is better to drive when we have my niece with us. I like the fact that it only has 6 seats! Most of the time the back two seats are down for my sister and her husband and I sit back there from time to time and I'm 5'9" and I fit fine, a little stiff if it's a long car ride but at least I'm not in a big van. It's not your fault... It's just that every time Kia is mentioned it really invokes strong reactions on this board... (some sort of Kia insecurity... ha ha)

Oh haha well my sister traded in her Kia Rio for the Mazda5 and she drove the 'other' Kia before getting the 5. The reason the Mazda is fun to drive is because it's light and has a peppy engine! The reason the Kia isn't is because it's hevy and has an engine that moves it but doesn't have much more to give.

Sorry I didn't know!!! (outie)

Yes, we've been down this path, but you have not read it before and I've seen you active in the Mazda3 and Auto News section where I've posted before, that is why I replied (see link at the end of the post for more info)

Bottom line many people who don't like car-driver engagement think both cars are the same thing because they have very similar features.

You own a Mazda3, so it is like saying that a KIA Rio or even a KIA Optima is the same as a Mazda3 or a Mazda6. If you enjoy driving, it sounds like a joke, but if you don't care, then the Optima may have more things for the buck although it drives, feels and looks cheap...

Oh well, you judge. Possibly you can convince some of the people here to trade-in their Mazda5 for a Rondo, I can see 1 or 2 on the fence :D

Here is the Mazda5-Rondo comparo link if you are interested, so we don't further hijack this post:

I think the 5 is a better pick; personaly. Someone had said the Mazda5 was a niche car and thats why I asked if the Kia was considered to be in the same 'class' I test drove countless cars before I got my 3 and I've owned a lot of cars too. I didn't mean that the 5 and Rondo were in the same leage! And sorry I'll stay on topic from now on!

Many of the car makers already have mini-minivan type vehicles that they are selling in Europe/Asia. The big question is if any of them will bring them over to the US market. In the past, the US market has been all about size and power. That certainly has changed but the economy is tanking and the big 3 are barely hanging on by a thread. I doubt we will see any major new introductions of new vehicles in the immediate future. If anything, we'll probably see quite a few brands and even nameplates disappear.
