Non-Bose System Question ??

As some of you have seen from my other thread, I just recently bought myself a Mazda6s. I didn't get the Bose package and was thinking of upgrading the system with a small sub and new door speakers. As I was looking under the rear window deck from inside the trunk I noticed a bare connecter just hanging there that looks like it is probably used for the Bose sub when you have that option. My question is (without going out and doing some testing) does that plug have power and or speaker signals coming to it?? If so, that would be sweet and easy to connect to without having to route cables around. And if not, I wonder where the other end leads to ?

If anyone else has dealt with this issue or has any comments that would be great. :)

Well this weekend I just replaced the stock speakers with some Pioneer 6X8 3-way's (TS-A6870R)

Got a great deal on them at Walmart :D

Anyway....wow what a difference they make. The sound is MUCH clearer and surprisingly louder now. I'm thinking I might not even mess with adding a sub now. The stock head unit must be puting out around 20W RMS I'm guessing.

Still wondering about the existing wiring harness under the rear deck though. I'll have to check it out one of these days. :)

I don't think it works. I asked the same question over at Mazda6club.com and they say its not connected unless you ahve the bose system. THis is what you mean i hope

That is exactly what I mean. Looks to me like it is there to connect to the Bose sub. So without the Bose system, is there a signal there ??? That's what I have to find out. The other end of those wires have to lead somewhere.

I would doubt there's signal there - the Boses sub's connections come from the Bose head unit or the under-seat amp. We have neither without the Bose package.

Oh - and thanks for posting this. I heard the stock system with upgraded speakers in a friend's car, and it did NOT sound better. Maybe his speaker's were VERY low efficiency. The stock Mazda speakers are paper cone, and those traditionally have shockingly high efficiency/sensiticity almost in the mid 90s! Maybe I can make do with just a speaker upgrade too! When I get around to it, I'll buy stuff in two steps - the 4 speakers first, and then an amp/wires IF Needed ;)
