i was wondering if anyone else had this problem. everytime i go over a bump or hit the smallest thing in the road it sounds like i have something in my trunk. it's loud and annoying, and sounds like crap.

Welcome to the forum. It's commonly referred to as "the clunk" and is caused by worn rear sway bar bushings. There is a TSB and your dealer will fix it for free. Or you can spend the $25 in parts and fix them yourself.

Here's a thread you should read with common MSP problems and fixes:

Here's the specific infor for the bushings:

In case anyone is wondering, here's the full part number and pic of the new rear sway bar bushings ending in 156E. Hopefully I'll have time tonight or tomorrow to install them and let everyone know how easy/hard they are to do yourself. I was quoted 3 different prices ranging from $11.88 - $14.50 each bushing.

EDIT - I replaced the bushing myself last night. Fairly easy process. You only need to:

1) Raise the car on jackstand - If you don't you will not be able to access the bolt on the front side.

2) Take your 14mm Socket wrench and undo the 2 bolts holding in each bushing mounting bracket.

3) Slide off the mounting hardware and remove bushing.

4) Put new bushing on bar.

5) Put mounting piece back on bushing and position correctly.

6) Reattch the 2 bolts for each mounting piece.

7) Lower you car back down and go for a test drive.

Your rear decklid could also be rattling, however mine was never bad enough to notice when going over bumps, only when the 2 12"s in the trunk hit hard. I solved this by removing the rear decklid and placing weather stripping all around the underside edge. Cost me about 5$ at Homedepot and took about 45 minutes. Been rattle free for over a year now.

haha yeah man sorry im new to all of this forum stuff. but i don't think it's the deck because i had striping put on that because it was rattling before. and man i think im goin to take the deck off and put something else in cause im about to put in my 5 replacement sub. so the dealer has this TSB replacment?? i'm taking it in on tom to get it checked out.

Good to hear it's fixed for now. The new bushings will wear out too. Mine lasted about 8 months before it came back. Still not too bad though, but I'll probably put new ones in in the spring.

I had the same squeaking noise from rear end and the dealer said one hinge of the bootlid was loose. now it is no more. by the way, how exactly did you apply this material to your bootlid?
