New to this MS Protege thing

that noises that yer hearing is just bad install and or not quality parts. double check all nuts and bolts and make sure the spring has rubber seals on the top.
Done and done .. all awhile ago. I was personally there for the install and did some of it myself. They were installed correctly, everything is where it's supposed to be, and so on. And Tein isn't exactly a 'non-quality' company .. And yes, I'm positive that they're Tein and not a bad Ebay knock-off.

Besides, think about it -- if my springs were installed incorrectly, why are the noises coming ONLY from the rear?

it can be million little things. If the install was done right then its bad parts, or vica versa. Check your endlinks also, most likely its the rear bushings. if the install was done right then you woundn't be getting a clunk right? For about 140bux shipped, AXR bracket is a bargin.

Okay .. Let's try this one more time.

I am familiar with the 'clunk', which is caused by the bushings. What I'm talking about, and what I believe Jenn might be experiencing, is 'squeak'. In my brain, 'clunk' and 'squeak' are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.

The 'clunk', as I've readily admitted, is caused by bad bushings. I suggested AWR replacements, and you suggested the AXR bracket.

But what about the 'squeak'? I am POSITIVE that the 'squeak' is coming from the rear struts. I've had someone else drive my car and sat in the back to listen, I've pulled things apart, and I PROMISE you that the 'squeak' is coming from the stock struts.

Therefore, if Jenn gets a fix for the bushings and nothing else .. she may be quite disappointed when her 'squeak' problem remains.

Hope I cleared up the confusion! :)

It's a creaking squeaking sound. Like a creaky door would sound. And when I get out of the car, and the suspension lets up, you hear it. When I come to a complete stop, I hear it. When I go over a bump, I hear it.

YES! That sounds more like the 'squeak' than the 'clunk'.

The 'clunk' sound is more like .. well, a clunk, heh. It's a thudding, thumping sound. What I'm talking about -- and what I'm 95% sure you're talking about, Jenn -- sounds exactly like what you say. A squeaky door hinge, though generally lower in pitch. And it does it getting into and out of the car just from the weight difference, over bumps and potholes and uneven patches in the road, stopping and starting the car while driving .. Right? Right?

Yes right right.

Oh and the valve on my car is this I think:

http://www.forgemotorsport.com/content.asp?inc=product&cat=2002&product=FMDVMSP01

Should I keep it on there or take it off and put the stock hose back on?

put the stock back on, maf cars read air coming in and if it sends fuel as the air is metered. if you vent that air, you'll have fuel thats unburnt. Can cause unburt fuel deposits in the valves. Vent bov is for map cars or people that want to imitate Brian L Spillner aka Brian O' Conner.
BTW that same bov came with my car when i bought it, replaced it with stock and drives and idles better. Sold the bov on here for like 90bux.

yep thats ur valve alright u can leave it on or take it off. the valve can not harm ur car u just get a cool noise with it.

and jenn and rush both of you i have a feeling is ur rear sway bar bushings. when they dry out they make a loud squeak. my car never had the clunk since ive owned it. however the bushings dried out frequently just grease the hell out of em and the noise will go away. it it does not got away u may have another prob however it is very unlikely. the reason people buy this car is for the stock suspension the stock struts are some of the best available. no reason to replace them other than if its blown out and leakin oil or you want a stiffer ride or lower drop.

jenn if you really want the stock valve i'd trade you mine with the stock hoses but you may have to wait a week to do that cuz i dont have my car right now. its at the dealer gettin a new motor put in it.

The stock one came with my car. All the stock parts came with it when I bought it, they were all in the trunk (including stock springs).

oh ok. u will deffinatly be able to sell the valve you have on this forum. you could get alot o money for it. u can sell the stock springs for alot o money too. you will find that buying and selling used parts on this forum is often the way to go

recently i found the mounting nut inside the rear crossmember for the sway bar bushing had broken it's weld. I suspect it allows the bushing mount to slide any direction when it's torqued.....hence MY clunk.
However the squeek is definately the bushings themselves. Take them off and apply a LIBERAL amount of grease. the squeek will go away for a little while, but always comes back. These brackes will take care of both my problems........just wanted to share.

Ok, I've ordered the bracket.

Now, I drove the car to work this morning, it didn't stall out, the lights didn't come on in the gauge cluster like they do when it nearly stalls, but sometimes the rpm dropped to 200 rpm, and the AF gauge showed 10, and was blinking, so I guess it got a moment of richness that caused it to drop that low...

I guess the only way to immediately solve this is to put the old bypass valve back on then?

i get sqeak all the time. go in, grease the bushings (free) and it goes away. then it comes back. so now I live with it.

Does it normally come with the greasable bushings in the package price listed?

he offers both, it comes with starndard poly bushings but you can ask for greasable bushings which has zerk fittings so you don't have to take the bushings out to regrease them. email and ask himn for greasable ones, i think its only few bucks extra but lot easier to grease.
