New to this MS Protege thing

2) Have any of you found the rear suspension to creak and squeak a little bit? (I have Gold Line springs on the car, it came that way). Mine is really creaky and I'm wondering if something might be wrong.
First off -- welcome to the forums, and yay for havin' another female with a MSP!

As far as your suspension issues are concerned, definitely check into the bushings issue that is very common for the MSP. But along with that .. I have a set of Tein S-Tech lowering springs on my car (they're fairly similar to Goldlines, what you have) and I get terrible squeakings from ONLY the rear of my car. There's a good chance that both our squeakings/creakings are due to the fact that our factory rear struts are somewhat retarded .. See this thread for more info:

I plan on solving the squeaking problem (and getting rid of the uneven 'raked' look) by picking up a pair of Illuminas for the rear only.

Good luck!

So if it's not the bushings, I may be able to fix it with off the shelf Tokico's?

Yes ma'am! According to what I've read and what others have told me. I'm gonna try the fix out for myself in a couple months, cause there's some other mods on the list before fixing my insane squeaking issues. ;)

Haha, I love this car. I'm an original car chick in every sense of the word. I'm the crew chief for my boyfriend's race team, and will be taking race school myself at the end of the month (in the MSP --- and my pink fire suit!). Yay road racing! I'll be racing the whole season next year. Hopefully in an old RX7.

I've been working on cars since I was about 10 years, old, giving me almost 13 years of experience. I tend to do most of my own work.

What if I put the stock springs back on (they came with the car), and if it still creaks, take it to the dealer? I have warranty for another 108,000km. :)

stock springs won't help. its' the actual rear swaybar bushing that's the culprit. yes..take it to the dealer and they'll have to fix it for you.

Wondering if I'll have better luck getting it covered under warranty if I put the stock springs back on first.

don't bother with the stock bushings, they will go bad again in about 10k miles if it snows alot where you live. Its the stock bushing location that causes the sway bar to bend instead of twist causing premature failure. Go with the AXR brackets, trust me. They also improve turn in and steering response.

Eeeeh .. Will you get it covered better under warranty if you have the stock springs on? Yes. Will the problems you're experiencing now just return in a few months afterwards? Yes.

Some people go with the AXR clunk fix. I'm gonna do the Illuminas and some of the AWR bushings -- but that's because I want to fix my 'ass height' problems as well. If you're only interested in fixing the squeaking, then you MIGHT be alright getting the AXR.

For those of you that have the AXR clunk fix, are you guys riding on stock suspension or do you have aftermarket springs as well?

doesn't matter if yer lowered or not, the bracket will work as is. Racing beat mp3 preproduction car had the bracket very similer. Mazda took it out for cost cutting. On some heavily lowered cars you might need a shorter endlinks but thats with or with out the brackets. Evolv is working on new endlinks also, he engineers awesome products.

heres the preproduction mp3 bracket that never made it to production. AXR piece is much beefier and can probably hold much thicker sway bar.

Haha I'll find the production number after I find out what all the buttons on the CD deck do (with no manual (peep) )

I also have a project 1984 RX-7 GSL, and my S/O has a 2004 RX-8 GT in Winning Blue, so we're well represented in Mazdas. :)
I have the manual in a .pdf file. PM me your e-mail address and I'll be happy to foward it to you. (Just make sure your printer has plenty of paper!)

So another thing, I find when I come to a stop sometimes, the car stalls out. Like when I just backed into my driveway, and came to a complete stop and popped it in neutral, the rpm dove to like 100 rpm, then back to 500 rpm then danced around a little before back to 900rpm.

It's also happened when I'm slowing to go around a corner or come to a stop (especially on a hill). Sometimes, it catches itself and doesn't stall completely, but all the lights come on, then go back off again.

Any insight?
