2003 Protege 5
Just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. I am the proud owner of a 2003 red protg5 with sport AT trans.
I have had it for almost a year now. Went to buy a Mazda 3 summer of 04 and it was a bit out of my price range. Saw the pro5 on the lot fully loaded with a $2,500 rebate got the dealer to give me $2,000 for my bad old 92 Celica GT with 128,000 miles on it. In addition, my girlfriends father is a welder at Ford so I got the X plan. That all pretty much made my decision a no brainer. I like the gauges in the 3 a lot but aside from that, I like the interior of the pro5 much more. I also like the exterior of the pro5 more than the 3. I know the 3 has a bigger engine but I also read on the car and driver site that it has a lot more weight than the pro5 making it a little les nimble. Anyway, I have been happy with it thus far. Just starting to get into mods. Got a Kenwood receiver with the iPod adapter, alpine type R components for the front and rear, and an alpine amp. Planning on keeping the stock pioneer sub. I have not put any of the stereo equipment in yet but when I do, I will be sure to post pictures. I am also planning on getting some of the windows tinted and painting the calipers red. I would like to put some brushed DaveB rings in. I posted a WTB for some. They look really cool from the pictures I have seen on the forum. However, they are hard to get a hold of. That is pretty much it for now. My girlfriend is looking at getting a new car so she test-drove the 05 3s sedan over the weekend. It is a cool car. She is also looking at a Scion tC. I am trying to convince her the mazda is better than the Scion but am not having much luck. I just discovered the forum this week and am very impressed with it. Lots of great posts and much love for the mazda family of cars.
Im out,
Erik

Welcome! Lots of good information, hang around.

How's that Kenwood iPod adapter working for you?

Don't have it in yet so not sure. I looked a lot on the ipodlounge forum and most people seemed to think it was the best between the three (Alpine and Pioneer being the others). It sounds like nothing is quite as good as the click wheel interface on the iPod itself, but I mostly listen to songs on shuffle so I don't have a need to access individual songs all the time. I'll let ya know once it is all in place. Might be a few more weeks before I have time to get it in. Got a busy summer.

are the protege5 nice handling i might get one

yeah, they handle like the Protege ES and Probably a little better becasue they come stock with a front anti-roll bar.

i think they handle nice and if you get some bigger rims, lower profile tires, rear anti-roll bar, and some springs it will handle more like the MSP and MP3.

wow!

Lots of great mods. You guys are really starting to make my car look really boring. At least they come looking somewhat street right out of the box.
RedKatanax9, like the beer toast animation I can really appreciate it seeing as how my profession is brewing beer.
