Ok, well I know next to nothing about speaker systems.... but could someone recommend me a good setup to install in a MSP? for under 600? I know it has a slightly improved audio system already but I would want to install a new sub(s) and amp at the very least, and would consider speakers and head unit if it was affordable.
I'm very sorry I just have no idea what I'm doing in searching for good components!
Thanks in advance!
Does the MSP have tweeters installed in the sail panels, doors, dash or pillar?
I don't remember, but if they do, then you can replace those with a decent quality component system. Use an adapter to mount 6" mid-bass or go with some of the 5x7/6x8 based components available.
The rears can stay, they are only for fill and rear passengers, don't worry about them as much.
As for subwoofer(s) and amps, it really depends on how loud you want it to play and how much space you're willing to give up to get it.
You can easily spend that entire $500 budget on your sub system and get mindblowing bass. So much so that you'll need to install some sound deading for all the shaking it will cause if you don't.
As for head unit, you really need to outline what you want or desire in a feature set. Do you have an Ipod? Do you like Sat Radio? Is SQ more important than loudness? Are there cellphone regulations in your city/county/state?
These are all factors that increase the price of a head unit. I always suggest getting as much HU as you can afford. The $100-150 range is pretty sorry IMHO unless you can get previous year's models for great price. Even going up to $200 doesn't get you much more than decent subwoofer control and maybe direct Ipod interface. At around $300 things get better, you get some serious sound control, better A/D chips and more crossover options. Along with Bluetooth, 3 line support for Ipods and Sat Radio, this is where I would start shopping personally.
Give me a better outline of what your looking for and I'll make some suggestions.
