new rx-7

According to this months Car and Driver the Mazdaspeed Miata is going to be supercharged.

I heard that also, I also heard it was going to have a rotary. Then I heard it was also going to be turbo.

I'd imagine it will just be turbo. Mazda has had great luck with turbo B-series motors (well, that's saying if they keep the B-series).

Hmmm, this is all very interesting considering Mazda stated that the RX-7 has been discontinued indefinitely because they don't have the production capability to build enough RENSIS motors for both the RX-8 and a new RX-7.

I say BS for now...

And I doubt 2006...This info was released a few weeks ago via the Car Connection I think.

Who said that and when?

I heard they were waiting to see how the RX-8 did sales wise. They need to make a reliable name for the rotary before the average person will buy them I think.

Dated September 8, 2003 from the Car Connection:

No Plans to Revive RX-7, Mazda Insists

Those expecting to glimpse a new rotary-powered Mazda sports car at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show will be in for a serious disappointment, several senior Mazda officials tell TheCarConnection.com. It's not that the automaker isn't exploring the idea of reviving its legendary two-seater, which went out of production last year. For the moment, though, it has its corporate hands full with the new four-seat RX-8, which is just in the midst of a global launch. There's another problem, stresses Mazda Motors Board Member Steve Odell: limited production capacity for the new Renesis rotary engine. There's only capacity for 60,000 of the engines a year, he notes, around what Mazda hopes to need for the RX-8, and expanding production would be "quite difficult." Translation: extremely expensive. But there is a future for the rotary, he adds. "I'm sure we'd like" to produce other rotary-powered models, including a new RX-7, "if the demand is there." A solid hit with the new car could be the encouragement Mazda needs. -Paul A. Eisenstein

odd.. last month Autoweek said turbocharged :)
I think everyone is still speculating, but I'd lean more to turbo... Mazda has a long history of turbocharging, and none to my knowledge of supercharging...

plus the joint development w/ Calloway.... Just my speculation ;)

C'mon man don't tell me you ain't giving some love to the Millenia S, it was s/c. I too heard it was going to be supercharged. Seems this would be a least expensive way to give the miata some bump in HP to compete with the S2000 maybe...

Hmmm if RX-8 is no longer top dog and is more practical than the RX-7 I can surely justify buying one then! :D

The is the Roadster Coupe...It is a nice car.

And squelch the rumors, the Mazdaspeed Miata is a turbo BP motor.

No rotary and no super charger.

The real question now is, "Who did the turbo?"

I don't think it was Callaway.

Mazda did make the Miller-cycle motor with the last Millenia, which i think is some type of supercharged motor. Oh, it is supposed to be turbocharged.
