I just bought a very clean 02 P5 this week. So far, we love the car. My only complaint is the factory stereo. It is bad, even for factory equipment. I am hoping to see some ideas/ suggestions for a good replacement system. Just let me know what you have out into your P5 that works well for you. Thanks.

JVC KD-A525 ($90 w/$20 off coupon from Crutchfield) and Mazda OEM pocket. Sounds great, and I like having the USB port :

^Hank3, what are those things sticking out of your vents?

You've apparently never heard a toyota factory system :P

I'm currently using the factory headunit but for a while I had a low-end pioneer headunit and it sounded great with the factory speakers.

CH - they're JDM GIGA Air Fresheners. I first heard of them when I was a regular over at NASIOC. They're SUPER popular over there...especially the Squash scent. Hands down the best ones I've used in my 16 years of car ownership.

^ how expensive are they?

OP: anything jvc has always worked for me and they are fairly cheap!

I got the Sony MEXBT3900U and have really enjoyed it, though if you don't have a phone that supports BT Audio it's probably not worth it.

If you decide to install the stereo yourself I found that it was really easy to pop off the trim piece around the air vents and stereo enclosure to make installing the cross bar (mentioned here: Securing the Deck). All I had to do was push the tops of both air vents back and give the trim piece a good tug.

there's a few full build threads on here. check them out and steal some good ideas!

I like Alpine. They make quality stuff and aren't all flashy. I've had 3 mid-range Alpine headunits in my last cars and have never had a problem with them. I've got one in my P5 now but will be putting it in my Milly when the stereo comes out of the P5.

IMO, Sony sucks. I had a Sony headunit that crapped out (cd's would constantly skip) after about a year. And the factory speakers sounded better than the Sony X-plodes I replaced them with. I went back to the factory speakers the next day. Haha

I'd go with a double din nice touch screen or something, it fits in nice.

And this car is fairly easy for wiring, so you could do it yourself most likely. Def replace the stock speakers (all 4) and add a sub. Throw in a couple amps (one for speakers one for sub) and your good to go.

That is if your like me and love uncomfortably loud rock n' roll.

there a couple good set ups out there already dont forget to search=)

I can help if you need it, though I am a little biased on sub woofers. ;) But I can say that it is REALLY worth the money to do some sound deadening/dampening. I suggest SDS or Cascade. It made a world of difference. It is always a good idea to reduce the road/engine/passing car noise to make the most of your stereo, in other words being more efficient with better sound isolation from the outside world, not to mention not needing to turn of the volume/gains anywhere near as far. ;)
