New MS3 Owner Questions and Needs Stock Exhaust Identification Help

New MS3 owner here (dance), I recently purchased an 07 MS3, it was used and I am not sure if it has the stock exhause or not. Is there an easy way for me to tell (shrug)?

What items are a must for these cars? I read something about a catch can, turbo timer (but the owners manual says to let the car idle after long freeway runs or running hard). What else should I get to keep my MS3 running a long time? I have already ordered the spin on ooil filter adapter from Mazdastuff.com.

Thanks for any help

if the exhaust is routed over the rear subframe in one piece then its stock.... other than that I can't help you much, just look for misc welds and such

If you were lucky enough to get the MS3 in black mica you got an extra 20whp right off the bat. They were made stronger from the factory they say...

Just look at another MS3 and compare it to yours..

It's good to have you join us.

I want to do the oil filter mod but I want to be sure it will be warranty friendly. Has anyone talked to the dealers or Mazda USA about this?

Scott.

The 2.3L engine has a unusual oil filter type. You can get an adapter so that it will accept the standard screw on type. This may not be warranty friendly though.

actually the cartridge type is gonna become normal soon. saturn cars have used it for a few years and it's fine. a case of the we never did it that way before syndrome. and actually several cars in the past have had the replacement cartridge type system on them. not gonna say how i know cause that'll give my pre-cambrian age away

Look at the tubing before the exhaust tip -- if you see a muffler right there, it's the factory system. If you don't, it's likely the Mazdaspeed optional one.
